The secret trick here: nobody will make a new username and password - nor should they. They'll only log in if they have a convenient login with Google/FB/MS button. Which gives Google premium position in tracking.

Tesla has showrooms. It's just they're fully part of Tesla, instead of being little franchises with wingnut owners and weird regulatory capture.

Musk is a jack-ass, but the showroom model makes sense.

Remember when all the Musk fanboys were claiming that Musk cleaned up the CSAM and anybody who opposed him was obviously a pedophile? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Maybe I'm being unfair, but somehow when I read complaints like this about "purity" and "insufferable" and all that, I always assume it's "they downvoted and insulted me when I made a bigoted joke about like transpeople or something".

I have finally received my meds.

Partly because everybody's finances are stretched pretty thin, but also partly because phones got Good Enough like 6 years ago and so at this point you basically replace one when it breaks and replacement cost exceeds repair costs unless you're an enthusiast who demands the latest and greatest.... which is why the lucrously short support window for security patches on most Android devices is obscene. I know the technical reasons for them, but they're still unacceptable.

P2P and player-owned dedicated servers need to come back. This "everything runs on the cloud" stuff is so bad on so many levels.

The continental aviation industry doesn't need to decarbonize, it needs to be replaced by high-speed rail. Asian countries know this and are building accordingly. Travelling to the Caribbean should involve taking a train to Fort Lauderdale and then flying to your destination to minimize the carbon impact. Westjet can do the latter, not the former.

You can. What you can't do is argue for polite discourse in the face of somebody who wants atrocities.

Well it's a good thing we have the government-run wheat board to manage supply OH WAIT

Bought one for my kid because he's a little artist. Seems nice. I use a Pixel, but honestly I miss the moto "chop chop to turn on the flashlight" feature from my old Moto.

Let's be honest. It's not about the 5v5. It's not about the CC. It's not about the balance changes. It's not about the cancelled single player.

It's about the free stuff. Blizzard took away the free stuff, and everybody's angry about it. Now you have to pay for a decent amount of cosmetics, and getting a new hero requires a grind (a big grind for current-season hero, small grind for past ones) unless you want to pay.

There are two viable business models for service-based games (and running servers and paying moderators is service, that's why they're called servers):

  1. Sell a game and then support it right up until everybody's already bought the game, then sell the sequel and repeat. Otherwise how do you fund development when nobody is paying you anymore?

  2. Sell a game and then harass your players into giving you recurring payments.

  3. don't make the game a service. The game is a product and not a service, the service is the bare minimum to keep the master server up. Players run dedicated servers, make the expansions through modding, etc. This is how it used to be for everything before Xbox Live.

I get that it's disappointing, but when you get angry about not getting enough post-release content you're asking for 1 or 2. And the industry has pretty much moved away from type 3 -- I can't think of a modern popular game that isn't a decades-old institution like Minecraft Java that fit into that category.
