I'm not sure how this is misogynistic. If you swap the genders of everybody involved, it would still be fun.

Let's imagine a crazy hypothetical: It's Alternate Reality 1993. Margaret Thatcher retains control of the UK government, having won the leadership election in 1990, but has become increasingly unhinged from her long rule and is now publicly proposing reabsorbing Upper and Lower Canada back into the UK and is relentlessly mocking then-Canadian-PM Kim Campbell about it.

Canada-UK relations are hopelessly soured.

And also there are incessant rumours about the Iron Lady having sexual fantasies about her son Mark.

And, in the winter of Alternate Reality 1993, ousted former-PM Kim Campbell (known political foe of Margaret Thatcher), has a public and torrid affair with Sir Mark Thatcher, making neo-imperialist Margaret Thatcher furious.

That would be hilarious.

I have my own shopping list of Mastodon features that i watched languish in PRs on GitHub. I like Rochko, but he completely failed to meet the moment of Twitter's explosion and make the massive flood of excitement about Mastodon into the real permanent gains that were up for grabs.

Most of my wish list have nothing to do with safety because I'm a straight cis white guy and so my experience of Mastodon is that its userbase is painfully anodyne.

But the point stands that a hard fork with a focus on development velocity is long overdue.

Simple question that answers this for me:

Where is the centaur's junk? That's where the button-fly goes.

Here in Southern Ontario it's basically British winter; rain and fog, and practically zero snow so far.

I'm over 40 and slowing down with age, so I do 1.3 for most podcasts. I usually leave video at 1X but I'm generally doing something else at the same time like folding laundry or gaming.

Honestly, getting old sucks. Like, I used to play Lemmings a lot and hum the theme song to myself constantly. But I hadn't played the game in 20 years. I heard the song recently, and the tempo sounded twice as fast as I remembered, so much that I fired up emulators and whatnot to confirm... yes, that's really how fast the song is.

The song didn't get faster, I got slower.

Uh, you know that happens regularly in courtrooms right? Like, almost every court battle hinges on what's true and what's not. And courts are an arm of the state.

In some cases it's directly about the truth of speech. Fraud, defamation, perjury, filing a false report, etc. are all cases where a court will be deciding whether a statement made publicly is true and punishing a party if it was not. Ask a CEO involved in a merger how much "free speech" they have.

I think the problem is the reporting: it says "retail stores" right in the headline. Which sounds insane.

"Netflix to open themed restaurants and gift-shops" sounds... well, still insane, but less-so.

A reminder: rent is the purest form of supply/demand in the housing market. Nobody rents multiple units to sit on them the way people do to buy them. If prices are going up, that means vacancy is low and there just aren't enough units to rent compared to the number of people who are looking for a unit. Landlords hiking prices are hiking prices because somebody will pay that higher price.

The solution has to involve either building a crapload more units, or having less people who need housing (as always, Malthusians are invited to go first). Anybody who is proposing other approaches to this problem is either a con-man or an idiot. You cannot redistribute your way out of a shortage.

If you don't want to engage with political issues, don't bring up political topics. Using oppression for flavor text instead of confronting it as a major issue in your story is tacky. Star Wars suffers from the same problem.

Iirc his original claim to fame was speaking out about "compelled speech" against bill C-16, which extended human rights minority protections to trans people.

The fact that media referred to him as an "intellectual" instead of an "anti-trans activist" has always been wrong, because being an anti-trans activist is what made him famous.
