time is a flat circle. we're doomed to have observant people point obviously and painfully ironic flaws in society, as society just sort of carries on anyway, repeating past stupidities and adding new ones.

very, very few. interestingly, of the extremely small number of examples I can think of, they're all on the republican side. like, a few of them are legitimately golf buddies, go on vacation together, their kids are friends, etc. on the Democrat side, I really can't think of anyone I've known over the years who has legitimate, non-transactional friendships.

Reposting this because it's still my favorite article this year. If people could just realize this (obviously comrades already know), I feel like we'd immediately be 20% closer to communism.

lot of mix and mingle events and stuff. they do all hang out together. sounds like maybe McEnroe had it first, and he interviewed and talked to a bunch of them face to face.

I think a lot of it depends on your personal situation. For some immunocompromised people, the risk may be legitimately higher. And so in terms of it being "just like the flu", I think it's maybe more of a realization for people in those groups that it probably would have been a good idea to wear a mask in crowded public places before covid too, to protect against things like the flu. Masking has long been common in East Asia.

Yeah. And if I were his attorney, that would probably be a huge part of my suit. like, make them prove that they would have automatically caught and refunded his bet if he had lost.

it's really incredible how much Rowling managed to fuck up her legacy and the legacy of her books.

Like, if she'd just been generally supportive of inclusion or even just kept her dang mouth shut, people would probably still love the HP stuff. Collectively, people were ready to give her a pass for the mediocre writing, shitty naming, and even the more problematic content. But she turns out to be a massive TERF and everyone just went "ok, you know what? yeah. let's talk about it. you suck at writing and your books are pretty damn racist."

KOTOR 2 restored content mod is just incredible. it was my first exposure to this phenomenon in a video game setting.

I sometimes wish I'd gone to law school just so I could turn the tables in situations like this.

"On behalf of your former tenant, we're prepared to offer you a settlement of $3000. It's a very generous offer and I suggest you take it. The legal battle could draw out for years and get very expensive."
