I just stumbled on this post on my “all” feed.

You are the problem here.

Not to be fair to yud, but so much fiction (written by men) sexualizes ~14 year old girls and it gets really weird when you start to notice it. This includes beloved science fiction like Snow Crash for example. Im starting to get why so many of us misinterpreted Lolita, and why a lot of women/girls are a bit annoyed with the sexism at times.

What a bastardization of that post, and Scott's general views on the subject

Can someone summarize how this is a big misinterpretation or mistake?

I'm not in any way MAGA or trumpy or a culture war person [sure you are. E: one sort by controversial later and they are indeed a culture war person not a full time one but still], but I'm a long time SSC reader and I thought the post/article was about the fascinating and complete sorta morhph/takeover of the civic "ethos" or civic religion of the elite bluebloods of the USA.

From veneration of founders and founding fathers (up through Abe Lincoln, etc) as the sorta civic glue and religion that we are brought up on, to now embracing LGBTQ+ (not much emphasis on boring normal "L" and "G" [dog barks]) through parades, flags, police cars, crosswalks, holidayds, add campaigns, corporate slogans and logos, etc.

Is this not how most readers understood the article?

Hope this makes some sscers reconsider being a fan of scotts writing. (And yes there was pushback in the replies)

This reminds me of a story by somebody I knew who once was a libertarian once told me. He was into heavy metal, as a lot of people I know/knew are, and a libertarian so he was curious about NSBM, so he applied to go to one of those concerts and eventually he got a meeting point where they all gathered, and then they were bussed to the actual location of the concert (which was secret so kafka (our antifascist research group) couldn't identify the location and do something about the fascists. Not many people I know really talk to this guy anymore (he has some 'interesting' opinions on borders now).

Anyway, mostly unrelated to the culty school, I was just reminded of this story of fascists doing reasonably good opsec. (And the failure of me and the metal community at large to not do something about this, can't recall anybody (me included) to react to this enormous red flag in hindsight).

Don't worry only skull size on birth matters, else we could just take normal kids and inflate their skulls with pump.

I have a big head (I needed to pick the bigger helmets when I went gokarting) so yes, there is a huge relationship between IQ and brain size. Don't mock my chunky noggin please.

Hey wanna get in on the ground floor of my new cryptocurrency offer? You seem like just the person we are looking for.

partially due to impossible bandwidth and compression requirements

It still amazes me they publicly posted a request for help with these compression req which are physically impossible to achieve. Nobody with a CS degree is anybody near the leadership of neuralink. In other words, you are downplaying how impossible the requirements were.

Not only is this real, I think this is a paraphrase of a thing Yud wrote. Which makes it even cultier. (A reason why I called the Rationalismsphere a cult incubator, as their teachings make you more susceptible to getting into cults).

Edit: For example on his writing on cults, and more 'Every Cause Wants To Be A Cult'. (Look Cade Metz is referenced, before they turned on him)

What’s that now? Neo-alt-right?

I assume it is neoreaction. Not sure if you are a recent poster here, or were aware of sneerclub when it was on reddit but we talked about NRx there every now and then. (Not a fan).

I don't know if the Collins are NRx, what I do know is that neoreactionary podcasters love the Collins. (According to a quick google search). And bonus for David Gerard, Grimes has reached out to the Collins source is the grimezs long post on Grimes her links to all this shit

For decades he build a belief system where high intelligence is basically magic. That is needed to power his fears of AGI turning everything into paperclips, and it has become such a load bearing belief (one of the reasons for it is is a fear of death and grief over people he lost so not totally weird) that he has other assumptions added to this, for example we know that computers are pretty limited by matter esp the higher end ones need all kinds of metals which must be mined etc today. So that is why he switches his fears to biology, as biology is 'cheap' 'easy' and 'everywhere'. The patterns in his reasoning are not that hard to grok. That is also why he thinks LLMs (which clearly are now at the start of their development not the end, it is like the early internet! (personally I think we are mostly at the end and we will just see a few relatively minor improvents but no big revolutionary leap)) will lead to AGI, on some level he needs this.

Men will nuke datacenters before going to therapy for grief and their mid life crisis.
