What a bastardization of that post, and Scott's general views on the subject

Can someone summarize how this is a big misinterpretation or mistake?

I'm not in any way MAGA or trumpy or a culture war person [sure you are. E: one sort by controversial later and they are indeed a culture war person not a full time one but still], but I'm a long time SSC reader and I thought the post/article was about the fascinating and complete sorta morhph/takeover of the civic "ethos" or civic religion of the elite bluebloods of the USA.

From veneration of founders and founding fathers (up through Abe Lincoln, etc) as the sorta civic glue and religion that we are brought up on, to now embracing LGBTQ+ (not much emphasis on boring normal "L" and "G" [dog barks]) through parades, flags, police cars, crosswalks, holidayds, add campaigns, corporate slogans and logos, etc.

Is this not how most readers understood the article?

Hope this makes some sscers reconsider being a fan of scotts writing. (And yes there was pushback in the replies)

Don't worry only skull size on birth matters, else we could just take normal kids and inflate their skulls with pump.

I have a big head (I needed to pick the bigger helmets when I went gokarting) so yes, there is a huge relationship between IQ and brain size. Don't mock my chunky noggin please.

The comments are quite a selection of typical things. 'harassing innocent IQ researchers' 'the sneerclubbers are all losers who hate crypto' etc etc. Hitting the familiar beats.

No shut downs of large AI training

At least the lack of Rationalist suicide bombers running at data centers and shouting 'Dust specks!' is encouraging.

We get it, we just don't agree with the assumptions made. Also love that he is now broadening the paperclips thing into more things, missing the point of the paperclips thing abstracting from the specific wording of the utility function (because like with disaster prepare people preparing for zombie invasions, the actual incident doesn't matter that much for the important things you want to test). It is quite dumb, did somebody troll him by saying 'we will just make the LLM not make paperclips bro?' and he got broken so much by this that he is replying up his own ass with this talk about alien minds.

e: depressing seeing people congratulate him for a good take. Also "could you please start a podcast". (A schrodinger's sneer)

There is the NotAwfulTech awful.systems community for these kinds of posts, even if it is nice.

Time to build the inception dream technology, and give him the dreamidea that it is a lot easier to make artificial sperm than artificial wombs.

As Tolkien predicted: 'the age of men is over'

Whoa (I don't think they ever reused this plot point in the movies did they? Also yeah I also posted this on bsky)

Their next kid will be named Ultima Thule, and they will claim very loudly that this is just because they are so big fans of astrology and that they never heard of the controversy regarding the name.

An undertone in Dutch weird right wing twitter is a desire to move to Russia/(sometimes Viktor Orbáns Hungary) because at least there they still have freedoms and rights. And they accuse the left of living in a filter bubble.

you’ve got to engineer it to be viral.

All this attention including the whole Andreessen thing and he doesn't go above 50k followers. As far as virality goes that is pretty bad.

Also from his twitter: "We literally became a sufficient threat to the system that they felt compelled to attempt to neutralize me.

The thing is, I am a man of belief. You can take everything from me. I don't care. I am going to keep going until I'm dead.

You cannot stop acceleration."

Sure buddy the system did that. Keep riding the wave, in five years we will all gather on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look west.
