Reasons I am sad: I am not currently being yelled at by an adorable crow while wearing an elegant suit

This post is about recovery, not abandonment

Recovery from what? Fascism is what your own neighbours chose. This is the system working exactly as intended and pretending it's not is covering one's own eyes. There are hundreds of millions of Americans for whom this is a good day. They have the backing of the wealthy and powerful. And their project is to remove any chance of them ever losing power again.

Thinking you'll stop something like Project 2025 in the ballot box is willful ignorance at this point.

Since OP has already made it clear that "violent uprising" is not on the cards, then the alternative is to get out while they can. Hopefully while helping others do the same. Save themselves and their own. Survive and maybe you can make a difference from the outside.

When Germany went all Nazi in the 30s~40s you know who DID make a difference? Not the political opposition who got slaughtered. And not the people who let the Nazis walk all over them while claiming they were still better because they were "civil". It was resistance fighters who helped the allies fight and minorities to escape. And people who got out of Germany and then joined the fight on the side of the allies.

.... We (as in humanity) made a lot of cool shit before we realised it was slowly killing us.

I think climate denial will look pretty funny in hindsight after agriculture has broadly collapsed leading to mass famines, and a bunch of coastal cities are several meters under toxified saltwater.

Like, that thing I just described is the optimistic scenario, where humanity/society survives despite things turning way shittier. It could be much worse.

Decentralization.

That in itself is a huge advantage. Otherwise it's just Reddit 2.0

I feel like with libre/open source software, this is a lot less of a problem -- So long as it is still possible to add it back by messing around under the hood, we are pretty much fine with the "Main" branch of some software dropping legacy support?

It'd be unreasonable to expect the devs of anything to keep supporting things that are over 20 years old.

And like, if you're using 25 year old kit at this point you're either a hobbyist collector of vintage stuff, OR an enterprise with mission-critical assets on old legacy hardware/software -- In either of those scenarios, "figure out how to go under the hood and fix stuff" (or in the enterprise's case, "hire someone who does that for you") is not an unreasonable expectation to have.

The smelly part is of course proprietary software and hardware, where "dropped official support" might as well be the signing of a death order. We desperately need a "right to repair and maintenance" regulation on every country in the world.

Flat-earthers, and I see it as the most unhinged for one simple reason:

It seemingly has no -- Stakes?

Like

With every other conspiracy, whether it be related to 5G or Fluoride in the Water or Vaccines or whatever, there is ~someone~ who is consolidating a shit-ton of power or wealth through their conspiring, y'know?

But with Flat Eartherism.... ? Like. Imagine you got control of every educational institution. You use it to convince people the planet is the wrong shape. And by doing that you gain.... -- What exactly? It just seems pointless? We know what people do when they have power to manipulate people on that level, because history tells us. And they generally don't bother with the shape of the planet.

I'll do literally whatever if it can be a 4 day work week and support my life. Mines? Factory? Literally swimming in shit? I don't care

I work to live, I don't live to work. I don't need my job to be "fulfilling". It just needs to pay for my fucking needs

Then in the off hours I can do fun nonsense like draw furry dicks or whatever. Hopefully without having to turn that too into a job.
