You should finish your playthrough if you wanna get the best ending since you have to finish the game multiple times for it anyway. It's rough having to trudge through a story you're not invested in though, I feel that.

People knew what America was, but it wasn't "canon" so to speak. There's a big difference between what's real and what's publicly regarded as true. Hopefully this shift means that other countries can finally call a spade a spade when it comes to other American atrocities.
