"We are the wealthiest nation, perhaps in the history of the world, but even we can't sustain a couple-million-dollar piece of equipment that can be taken out with an $800 drone and munition," he said.

I thought that was the entire fucking point of the world spanning empire. That's why there's poverty, hunger, and homeless that exists in the world - so you could sustain multiple millions on every frivolous last bit of killing people for sport and looting. A trillion dollars can either kill a million Iraqis or, I imagine, house, feed, and dignify every person so far.

I'm in awe of how uBlock is reporting to me that the amount of ads that it's blocked is in the 8 figures.

Between that and sponsorblock I have moments where I'm super out of touch because people are talking about artists, movies, and sometimes specific commercials that I haven't the faintest idea about. It's only when I interact with the public that I'm introduced to ads and they feel suffocating. If I ever have to (or if I'm so lucky as to get to) fly somewhere and stay at a hotel it's a torrent. If I go to a concert that I'm invited to it's a torrent. Not to mention all the "rate your experience!" emails that come with it and how I have to opt to unsubscribe and sometimes unsubscribe to MULTIPLE TYPES OF MARKETING.

My local grocery store has an aisle of the fridges with electronic ads on them. The gas station nearest to my BJJ gym has pumps that autoplay ads. Highways are littered with ads. It's a disgusting, disgusting practice.

“We see these officials and the Maduro regime basically fleecing the Venezuelan people for their own gain,” the US official said.

Absolutely beautiful execution of the "just doing things" model of not being evil. With the knowledge that this is the only place on the Internet where I could imagine asking this question:

Where does China get the cobalt needed for EVs? Are they exploiting the fuck out of South America and doing overseas cringe?

We're so back screm-cool

"Well, hold up, what the hell? You don't want to decide who your boss is? You want to just go into the factory and just have someone tell you what to do? Yeah haha I think you're out of your mind. Let's just go and hope that one of the factories just happens to have a good boss instead of just electing a good boss. Let's just make a bunch of little factories so we can gamble on one of them having a good boss instead of... I don't know... ELECTING A GOOD BOSS! You realize the factories actually produce important things, right? They're not just little slot machines where you can hope that, by benevolence of God, some good king of factories descends from the heavens. Human nature is collaborating and finding the best way to make what we need to survive! Please don't waste my time with fairy tales that evaporate the second they hit the real world."

What an absolutely bizarre strategy of asking the base of a democracy to grant you the power to enact their desires by disagreeing with them about what they want. If we all agree that he's too old, he's too old. If we all want to change the name of Sunday to Moonday because Moonday and Monday would be cute together, either run a candidate who will do that or shut the fuck up and drop out.

Did they dump it onto the ground or did they have some container they put the oil into?

I'd be willing to get super into the drama on this one to the point where multiple threads need to get made about my reaction and I post multiple paragraphs doubling down on my take before my ultimate ban rat-salute
