occams razor says this computer update mess was the result of a (relatively) new start up being dumb and cutting corners, ignoring accepted procedure

but at the same time, there's something so so poignant about the name being CrowdSTRIKE. It's like they were begging the cosmos for a globe spanning error

To deter a potential conflict with China, the United States must act quickly to resolve key challenges in its industrial base.

to deter conflict we have to resolve the things that would make it difficult for us to have a conflict?

also, cute animation, is that the only way to explain things to congressmen these days?

if only there were already an established species of large ungulates - ideally herbivores - to fill the niche and prevent hogs from over-expanding

it's been a real treat watching the headlines go from

"China is going to have a bigger real estate crash than we did"

to

"China has absorbed the crash by doing all the things you thought Obama had promised to do and didn't"

grillman I'll shovel off my side of the stairs, but I will die before I let my elderly neighbor Frank freeload off the sweat of my brow like some liberal communist parasite. If he doesn't want to break his hip slipping on the stairs again, he'll shovel his own side or pay a child to do it as God (the market) intended.

Oh, hey, this was what got me to first join the CTH subreddit. Someone on the breadtube sub said, "At least we're not like those tankies at /r/chapotraphouse" and I went to go see how bad it was.

Apparently there's a whole series. It starts out called "Trump's Titans", then they started a new run and I've given up on this summary already. This. This whole thing. It's draining. It is a hot cobalt sphere of numbing smooth -- right through my brain. I wasn't even looking for political things, I found it by accident. They fight elon musk in the latest issue.

I've said before that Donald Trump represents a sea-change in american politics, the fusion of it with reality television programming. It's not like he was the first, John Stuart had already been turning political news into TV entertainment for a solid decade or so. But Trump marks the point where it becomes the new 'meta' -- and not just for the republicans. Considerations of policy, of strategy, of people's lives. It's been drained from discusion. I mean, it's not like it was great before, but it was there. Now... it's just empty back and forth about what figure A said about representitive B. Far more people are keeping up with it, but their keeping up with it in the most shallow way. "Ruthkanda forever".

the treatment of older adults in the United States is... I have no other word but sin. I don't mean how we talk about the elderly, I mean how once you're past your use as a laboring employee, you're expected to just exist - day after day, week after week - in a glorified motel, run by overworked nurses, for a private company that only sees you for your social security check. It's horrific. It's bleak. It's a sin. No nation worthy of respect would see this as an acceptable 'solution'.

I think this has broken me. Usually I kinda cheer along to the plight of America's collapsing empire... but this. I'm just sad. It makes me cry to think there are already kids being shoved through this nightmare 'school'. What is this point in history? What are we becoming? I don't like it, I dread what is to come.

Every day a little less human. Every day a little more spreadsheet.

American Christianity is a truly baffling thing. I had a pretty similar upbringing to you, and after recognizing the hypocrisy I just couldn't bring myself to engage. Like, there's no way to make someone see what they refused to acknowledge, so why bother? Matt Christman likes to say protestantism has replaced a socially constructed understanding of God with the crass glorifying/worshiping of a person's own ego (ie a personal relationship with God). And... as much as that smacks of an "edgy middle-school atheist rant"... yeah, that unfortunately seems to be the most accurate description.
