And never mind the fact that Russia, even in its currently degraded state, is objectively less evil than the United States
The high drama of family strife, conspiracy, betrayal, and power, played out with life or death stakes. Or at least, that's what I enjoy about it. It's very operatic. Plus it's got a number of excellent performances and an excellent soundtrack. And as an aside, it's a rare example of a movie being far better than the book it's based on. Fond as I am of the novel, there's a lot of shit that the movie rightfully excises (in the novel, Sonny's unnaturally large penis is literally an integral part of Lucy Mancini's subplot.)
Also, particularly when combined with the sequel, Godfather shows a mythologized, multi-generational rendition of the Italian immigrant experience. More broadly, it's a cultural artifact of 70s America that reflected a growing sense of otherness among so-called 'white ethnics' from the socially dominant WASPs, and a rejection of the assimilationist tendencies that had supposedly characterized the immigrant experience prior to that point.
None of this is to say you have to watch it. If it isn't your thing, then it isn't. I hate when people insist that a movie is essential somehow, and that there's something wrong with you if you don't like it. I just figured I'd share a bit of what I liked/thought about it.
Does the site just straight up not work on mobile for anyone else? I can only sign in when using an adblock browser, I can't filter posts or communities, search doesn't work, and hitting next keeps me on the same page.
I might be going to see Santa Fe 3751 next month, and I'm so jazzed about it
That screenshot is from IMFDB I'm guessing? I'm not saying this isn't also a gamer thing, but those guys are a special kind of anal retentive.
Pros: My hair is super thick and silky and luxurious when it's long (people like to touch it and they think I'm sexy)
Cons: My hair is super thick and silky and luxurious when it's long (it takes ages to dry and it's super heavy and always falling in my eyes and my ears get hot)
Not yet, but I'm sure most of us will at some point
You could probably emulate the older MGS games. They still hold up pretty well.
True, though while I've got nothing against playing games with dated graphics, that control scheme is something else entirely lol. Granted, I've never played any of the MGS games on PC, and my sole experience with the series beyond Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain has been the MGS2 Xbox port.
Modern by recent-ish releases? Have you played the newer Hitman game (I think it's renamed World of Assassination now), the mimimi isometric stealth games (eg Shadow Tactics), or the Dishonored games?
I'll confess that I haven't, but I'm probably missing out there too. I've always been slow to try new games (thanks ADHD/ASD/whatever on Earth is up with me), but I've been better about that these last few years. Might should give some of these a try. Appreciate the recommendations in any case!
Edit: I should specify that by "modern" I mean games set in the modern day with modern tech (sorry Thief, I'll try you eventually.) But I suppose I also mean it in the sense of recent-ish releases
They shouldn't go anywhere with it. I'd hate to see nuDoom become another franchise zombie.
I used to live up in those mountains, and unfortunately this didn't come as any surprise to me. The San Bernardino Mountains are full of armed reactionary maniacs, and it truly is a wonder that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.
Oh, I believe it, it didn't do me any favors either. Played hell with my ADHD and depression, drove me to drink even more than I already was, and it certainly didn't do any good for my back. Granted, it taught me a few useful skills, but it definitely wasn't worth it on the whole. Anybody who thinks this shit builds character has either never worked a truly soul crushing job before, is thoroughly cucked, or is in total denial as a coping mechanism. I worked with one guy there who fit that last one to a T.
I believe he was talking about the film from 1973, which Kill Bill heavily homages (or rips off, depending on how charitable you're feeling) but shit, I never knew Lady Snowblood was originally a manga.
