I don't know how common this sentiment is but I see a major military parade on US soil as an embarrassment. No uninvited foreign troops have set foot in the contiguous US since the Mexican American War ended in 1848. There hasn't been a military battle in the contiguous US since Wounded Knee in 1890, inasmuch as Wounded Knee was a battle. Part of the privileges that Americans enjoy is that that level of conflict happens elsewhere. Large displays of military power at home deminish us.

I'm in the US and in a place that native Americans didn't have settlements. I'm very familiar with the area and have hunted, hiked, and camped here my entire life. With no preparation or modern equipment I give myself about a week before I get eaten by wolves or a bear, maybe gored by an elk or bitten by a venomous snake. I don't expect that I would see another human during that week. Native hunting parties visited the area so it's not impossible that I would see someone but it's very unlikely.

It's time to move on from TNG and TOS. We need a new crew on a new Enterprise beginning their voyage 50-100 years after the Dominion War. We need something fresh and most importantly we need hope to return to Star Trek. The vision of a better future is essential to good Trek and it's mostly been abandoned. Enough with the gritty high drama high action stuff. Trek thrives in philosophical sci-fi and in presenting us with a better version of humanity.

If I were in the friend's position I doubt I would have gotten a close enough look to differentiate. The autopsy said the victim had "multiple chop wounds" including to the skull so it was probably a machete or ax attack. With lots of long deep wounds and blood there wasn't much chance he was alive when the friend found him so it's plausible that the friend didn't actually go into the campsite, just saw the blood and assumed it was a bear because what other animal could do that much damage.

On top of the problematic DNA match from his last book the author is now layering on conspiracy theories concerning Freemasons and antisemitism for his new book to draw even more questionable conclusions.

Two women's deaths have been publicly reported on and shown to be attributable to the abortion ban. The actual number of deaths attributable to the abortion ban is much higher.

That's always going to be the case with a first past the post election system. There can only be 2 parties with a chance to win at any one time and both are forced to be big tents. Because they have no chance at winning third parties get more choice on the issues they focus on and more freedom in how they talk about those issues.

We need election reform. We need a voting system that gives more power to minority voices and we need an election system that makes Congress better reflect the actual vote. I like STAR voting and want to move the house to proportional representation. We would most likely still have 2 big tent more or less center parties that will trade the plurality but the big tents would have to work with the minority party representatives to get enough votes to pass legislation. It's possible that more minority party visibility and them being taken more seriously would lead to a more ideologically diverse Senate and it would almost certainly boost minority party power in state and local elections.

Purely aesthetically I like light makeup. She doesn't look best in light makeup though. We like hiking and most of our vacations are to various trails. She is at her most attractive after a difficult climb. She is a very strong climber and during the climb she has an amazing confidence. Right after she gets to the top and sees the view she gets this look of accomplishment and joy and it's absolutely breathtaking. So she looks best sweaty, dirty, exhausted, and happy.
