I'll be honest ... maybe you're right but it's not really my concern. I've got a billion other things to care about that are more important; you probably do too.

Seems to me like the video author is just trying to make more drama ...

This sort of thing always happens anyways, some new thing comes along (systemd), some people want to use the old thing (sysvinit). Some people are like ... "god why would you use that, you're so dumb" ignoring any valid use case. Some other people fought very hard to convince people the new thing is great, so they've got a personal stake. (etc... etc..)

It's not sinister, it's at worst just people being annoyed that others are trying to hold onto the flame when we have light bulbs; my two cents.

Wayland is plenty mature and for most main stream use cases works better than X at this point.

There's nothing sinister, the people working on X11 didn't want to work on it anymore because it has a lot of issues in a modern stack.

On the one hand I agree.

On the other hand, we've moved to a world where digital purchases make sense and games are rarely shipped without patches or later content. We need a better way to manage them. It's silly I have a steam library that I can't resell virtually any part of.

Nintendo's system seems to let users at least do these sorts of license transfers, no? That seems like a win over the digital status quo even if the physical cards aren't what they once were.

Yeah that's a good grounding point; there are too many things out there that seek to sow division with "hot takes" and a lot of them are highly ignorable.

I'm not either, I've never even ran a BSD desktop... But I support the BSD desktop existing and wish it well.

Yeah, I generally agree; I'm a big fan of systemd on Linux.

However, on BSD this does sound unfortunately likely to be painful.

This is disappointing, but I can't say I'm surprised.

For those not familiar, Jagex has been going downhill since about 2010 (basically when the founders sold the game to venture capital). The company changes owners every couple of years as the next round of venture capital takes control promises big changes (for the better) only to squeeze more money out of an increasingly small player base. They then sell the company for a price hike.

Jagex is in the for sale stage right now, so they're presumably tying to avoid scrutiny for what they hope will be probably a billion dollar sale.

There's a new game by the founders, Brighter Shores. It improves a lot of things over RuneScape in principle, but it still needs a ton of work to make it more broadly appealing (effectively it's still just a bit beyond an -- extremely stable --tech demo; no bosses or minigames yet).
