If Harris wins, the Democratic base will continue to sleep. You can do anything when the Dems are in the WH. It was under Trump that protesters shut down airport terminals, but under Biden the base sleeps regarding immigration & asylum. That’s what Glenn Greenwald and I learned from the GWB to Obama transition: the Dems sleep when their team is in office. Greenwald “changed” from hero to villain without changing the least bit; the only difference was who was in office. Unlike the Dem-aligned media, he didn’t go to sleep.

You can war as much as you want. You can run a fucking star chamber. You can stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody.

If Harris is the harm reduction candidate, who for?

I guess it’s self-evident to everyone but me what he means.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_summit

NATO summits are not regular meetings like the more frequent NATO ministerial meetings, but rather are important junctures in the alliance's decision-making process on the highest level.

Apparently we’re having a rash of them lately: six in the last three years

Are you unfamiliar with always the same map? The imperial core (A.K.A. the Global North) is small compared to the periphery (A.K.A. the Global South), and they are now aligning with each other against the imperial core. The Global North deindustrialized itself, thinking it could make the Global South do its industry for it indefinitely. That’s falling apart now.

What two red scares and a cold war does to a curriculum.

This isn’t a refutation of your suggestion, but more of a “yes and…”. Literacy was much worse in Russia & China when they revolted in the early 20th century. I’m not sure what percentage the vanguard were literate at the time. I imagine that lack of literacy made reading groups all the more critical. What we have now that they didn’t have then are audiobooks. The Soviet & Chinese Communists prioritized literacy education highly after taking control.

The White House has been quietly urging lawmakers in both parties to sell the war efforts abroad as a potential economic boom at home.

It’s killing orcs for the economy, stupid.

The Trump win/Clinton loss plus the several (now-debunked) Russiagate scandals have been godsends for manufacturing the consent of Democrat-leaning Americans to embrace the censorship of “misinformation, malinformation, and disinformation”. My gen-x professional-managerial class peers are believers, despite my deprogramming efforts.
