The tech crowd is also more of a consumer kind these days than the hacky kind, so it's much easier to push corporate shite with a little bit of polish on top

They're walking right into the corporate trap of MIT and non copyleft licenses. FOSS will be bled dry if these greedy corporations are not forced to give back to the commons. And copyleft licenses like GPL ensure that they must contribute back

The entire point of F droid is that they reliably, openly and securely build APKs which are reproducible and guaranteed to correspond to an upstream source tarball. Then they sign with their own keys since they are the ones who do the actual building
