Follow-up: TGV still has this movie screened until 30 Aug but only in Cheras Selatan, once per day around 3pm. Catch it while you can!

I've watched it and it was pretty good. Felt like watching a CNY movie with a lot of traditions inside it. Also enjoyed the jokes and teared up at those touching scenes.

The "floating bookstore" was scheduled to visit George Town from 31 July to 27 August.

As of now, all remaining slots to board the ship is full. I managed to get one after being told that they extended her stay from 13 August previously.

Personally I'm holding out trying W11 as much as I can, either until my work laptop/PC gets refreshed, or I buy a new laptop/PC. W10 is supported up to October 2025, so there's still time.

Laterite soil with interesting minerals? Just a guess from a non-expert.

Perhaps this article explains it, or at least gives an overview.

Had CC Lemon once from the can, and it tasted like Sprite with more lemon flavour?

Another clue i got is from Hop On Hop Off bus schedule.

Their daytime routes go along Jalan Raja (Stop 11 to Stop 12) but ends at 6pm. Starting 8pm there is a single night tour that don't follow the day route, but it does stop at "River of Life/Merdeka Square" for photos. Meaning the bus turn into Leboh Pasar Besar if Jalan Raja is closed for vehicular traffic (besides I don't think Dataran Merdeka area is particularly photogenic at night).

My guess is they barricade starting from 8pm or before Maghrib at 7pm, then reopen early morning like 6am if it's not Car Free Sunday. I've seen articles about DBKL plans to close certain roads as test runs to eventually only allow pedestrian traffic at all times, but no details.

Kuching had almost recorded an unhealthy air quality at 11am today [31 July] with a reading of 100 before plummeting to 99 at noon.

The readings have improved since then.

There are 3 pieces of wantan buried underneath, which was great together with their charsiu. Noodles was good but kinda undercooked, maybe it's more suitable with soup. This medium bowl is still below RM10, so it's worth a try if you're around and the shop is open.

Astro Awani's article worded it this way:

Sementara itu, PN turut mengambil langkah berani dengan menampilkan Pengerusi Pertubuhan Kebajikan ACT Malaysia (ACT), Muhammad Fazil Mohd Dali atau lebih dikenali sebagai Ayahanda Cik Ton di DUN Pandan Indah.

No mention of gangster or his past, but called it a "brave move". Here's a short feature on him in 2019 if people are interested.

Summary on BFM 6pm-to-7:30 discussion about youth vote (audio 56 mins). They invited 2 Malaysiakini journalists who worked on the Newslab feature on whether the green wave was powered by the youth (monyet.cc post), and also another guest professor who is a uni lecturer to understand this topic.

  • MKini has data down to polling districts (scroll to "Who did your neighbours vote for?"). They encourage readers to understand how the oldest and youngest vote, since their choices are drowned out when lumped together in the final results. However they acknowledged the data and article they presented can be overwhelming. What they found can be summarised in the next section, which I combined with the guest prof opinions.

  • Youth votes will largely follow GE15 trend. The youth don't favour the older BN, went through Sheraton move (-ve for PH), Covid lockdown (+ve for PN) and gig economy, which factors into their vote preferences. Urban-rural, education, employment, and income levels seem to be secondary factors, compared to recent politics and policies. They prefer a strong figure to lead the country/state to stability and look after their rights (not so much youth rights, but the preferential treatment kind).

  • Part 1 of MKini election simulator was discussed on BFM here (audio 50 mins).

First by-election after GE15, if the slightly postponed Padang Serai and Tioman elections don't count.

First shown on 23 Feb 2023 in local theatres, this sci-fi drama grossed RM3.5 million (ranked 4th among 2023 Wajib Tayang films so far) according to Finas.

Personally, it was my first theatre experience in nearly a year. I was convinced this film was worth buying a ticket for by the chatter on Reddit. As it turned out, they were not wrong. As per convention, spoilers in the comments whether they are marked or not, so beware.

Also TIL The Istana in Singapore is serving a similar purpose as the president's official residence, and was completed a year (or less) before The Astana began construction.

Seems more reasonable than building a flagpole, but we don't know their budget on the new Astana yet.
