Because everyone in the supply chain is being paid a fair wage and not being exploited.

A government shutdown would disrupt a lot more than the fire alarm. That's the consequence of Dems voting no on a bill they didn't read.

Can we stop the overuse and over-generalization of "enshitification" which Doctorow had given very explicit meaning to in regards to social networks? It does not simply mean commoditization which is not quite the same but almost synonymous with 'race to the bottom's in regards of trying to increase revenue while simultaneously decreasing costs.

Edit: I'll admit narrowing to "social networks" is a bit too narrow, but the point still stands that it's for two way platforms where there are "two markets." Phillips Hue does not have a two sided market.

Am I the only one where all the links show up as searches instead of links to the communities themselves?

Not in a Nissan at least.

Cyclists adhere to the same rules of the road.

The information the OS collects is not worth more than keeping you in the ecosystem itself. That's the more lucrative reasoning. Can't easily sell other products if they're not in Windows. The information collection is just gravy.

Many folks deleted their contributions when they migrated away. So it isn't intentionally trying to not help anyone else. It was just protesting against reddit more likely.

For how long this is, it's very confusing. Some links also didn't work. This reads like someone who is way overly invested in their reddit account though. Like, I doubt you'll find any lawyer in the US who will go to bat over you getting banned. Privately owned (as in not government-owned, so regardless of any possible IPOs in the future) companies have freedom of speech which gives them the right to censor whoever and however they want. We don't need to like it, but it is what it is. I'm personally ok with them being allowed to censor whatever they want because I don't want to get into the mess of the government defining what speech is or isn't against the law. I'd be maybe ok with drawing a line on incitement and/or active assistance to violate laws or another's rights, but that's about it. But there is no right to have speech or say what you want on someone else's platform.

Does this make reddit dangerous? Absolutely not.

You did learn a lesson.

Don't pour yourself into work that someone else owns. You can easily lose it.

It sounds like it was a harsh lesson for you. I sympathize. But I don't know what else you expect from a for-profit corporation.

You're on an alternative. They already exist. You're also preaching to people who already agree alternatives are important.

Edit: added a word for clarity because some people can't carry context from one sentence to another.

Something the US couldn't do under the previous government. Plus many switched to wheat beforehand anyway due to food shortages. The US didn't rule Afghanistan and had to work within Afghanistan's government. That government is gone. The Taliban can act like a dictator. Sure, armed with little more than sticks, but farmers had a two year lag beforehand to switch to wheat. This ban wasn't just announced it's old. It was just never enforced til now. I mean, it's ridiculous to compare the two situations. If the US did the same, at the time they were there, there would have been total economic collapse plus basically commiting war crimes.

Absolutely not. I've followed plans and couldn't tell you what the person looks like. It's usually not about knowing a lot about the person but the popularity of the plan. And I've come across hers so at least in my opinion, it's a common one. I find this no different than the countless stories Tony Hawk says that border the same concept. He just gets believed a lot more easily for whatever reason.

Honestly, everyone not joining lemmy.world would help. Also, not confusing Lemmy and lemmy.world as the same thing. If you have an alt account on another server, consider making it your permanent account. It's the fediverse. You don't need to be on lemmy.world to see lemmy.world.
