i agree; communication is very complicated and for example even understandings of common phrases varies sometimes not just regionally but from person to person, so it makes sense to me that people in general often struggle to pick up on hints, especially the more subtle the hints are, and that's no one's fault. for hints in terms of sexual/romantic i think i would also probably factor in self esteem as depression and anxiety are epidemics in our society that are only getting worse as it becomes harder to maintain social lives as third places disappear. low self-esteem often comes with depression and anxiety and people who struggle with it may assume that no one would/could be interested in them or be flirting with them. idk, that at least described me for a long time when i was younger. in the case of my bf he's also autistic and struggles to pick up on social cues in general, much less flirting

well that decides it, gods are real and we're their chat gpt, all our creations are just responses to their prompts lmao

it's wild though, i've heard that we don't really have free will but i guess i'm personally mixed on it as i haven't really looked that into it/thought much about it. it intuitively makes sense to me, though. that we wouldn't, i mean, really have free will. i mean we're just big walking colonies of micro-organisms, right? what is me, what is them? -- idk where i'm going with this

is it like natural ground cover is the foliage that naturally grows in a place and then grass is like stuff we plant in yards for aesthetics?

if it is potent when it grows like that i would love to move to a place where it grows naturally ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘‰

you're right according to official reddiquette. the intended use of the downvote button is to de-emphasize irrelevant content and content that otherwise doesn't contribute to the conversation

i have seen it argued that its intended use use doesn't matter versus how the majority of people actively use it, similar to language and symbols. usage evolves with time, so meaning evolves with it. personally i prefer the intended usage but i can see where ppl who make this argument are coming from.

the lemmy instance i joined doesn't have a downvote button at all!

edit: here's the official reddiquette archived on the wayback machine

In regard to voting:

Think before you downvote and take a moment to ensure you're downvoting someone because they are not contributing to the community dialogue or discussion. If you simply take a moment to stop, think and examine your reasons for downvoting, rather than doing so out of an emotional reaction, you will ensure that your downvotes are given for good reasons.
