If you want fan translated chapters - Mangadex

for official translations - Mangasee

for both - Comick

if you want to download them you can either use tools like tachiyomi, hakuneko or fdm2 that allows you to ddl from most major sites or use nyaa if you are comfortable with torrenting.

It's an interesting thing to ponder and my opinion is that like many other things in life something being 'OC' is a spectrum rather than a binary thing.

If I apply a B&W filter on an image is that OC? Obviously not

But what if I make an artwork that's formed by hundreds of smaller artworks, like this example? This definitely deserves the OC tag

AI art is also somewhere in that spectrum and even then it changes depending on how AI was used to make the art. Each person has a different line on the spectrum where things transition from non OC to OC, so the answer to this would be different for everyone.

A subscription import/export function would be much easier to implement but I don't think that's what users want when they say they want instance migration functionality.

While we can't expect meme communities to do any better since that's what memes are supposed to be, I hope news and tech communities are better in this regard.

comments and upvotes work similarly in the fact that only users from federated instances will show up.

But also yes there is a short delay before comments sync in general too aside from the above fact.

The beehaw and world defederation (which I assume you are referencing) is temporary because beehaw believes the increased traffic cannot be moderated without proper mod tools.

And while you're right about mainstream things like gaming or technology won't have a single main community, I feel more niche communities will be able to setup their main communities. Obviouly that's just my opinion, but there are some signs of that happening already. (c/piracy for example)

Right now the best way is to search from inside a lemmy instance itself. lemmy search finds much better results than what native reddit search used to give.

An article on why Meta entering the fediverse is not necessarily a good thing.

[-] zinklog@lemmy.fmhy.ml 11 points 1 year ago

Nope. everything was smooth for us.

Following this post yesterday, the errors encountered by other admins were sorted and we realized captchas were not enough of a reason to keep people from experince the best version of Lemmy.

We are now on v0.18 with registration applications turned on, this is a temporary requirement until captchas are added back. If you encounter any bugs with the new version please mention them in the comments.

(Clear your cache if the new version doesn't load for you, should work fine after that.)

Official Announcement: https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/post/263377 Github Release Page: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/releases/tag/0.18.0

This is a massive upgrade, and a lot of the minor annoyances that users were finding about Lemmy has been fixed. You can check the above links for all the changes implemented but some of the major ones are:

  1. Websockets replaced by HTTP: What this means for you is that instances will feel snappier due to less load, and the annoying sudden flood of new posts when browing hot is also gone. In general hot/active sorting has been reworked and feel much better to browse.

  2. Links that would take you off-instance should now get automatically converted to ones that don’t. And just writing the name should be enough to turn it into a link. So no more manually searching for the linked communities you find in the comments.

  3. Support for 2-Factor Authentification.

  4. Custom emojis for Instances.

  5. Support for PWA.

  6. A Share Button.

  7. Improvements to overall look and feel of Lemmy.

Not to mention many under the hood changes like database optimizations and bug fixes. This is a very big version upgrade that's come at just the right time.

However, some Instance admins encountered errors when trying to upgrade. And captchas, which we rely on to prevent bots from flooding in, will come back only in version 0.18.1.

So our options are to either upgrade now, maybe have some downtime and to turn on registration applications, or wait until v0.18.1 is released before upgrading (which shouldn't take more than a few days). We are leaning towards option 2 for now, but interested in hearing what others have to say.

Direct linking to mega or google drives are much more prone to takedowns, so we base64'd them as a precaution.

[-] zinklog@lemmy.fmhy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah I don't think there is anything useful in keeping federation with such instances, we'll block the obvious ones and see how the situation develops.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/35555.

A fellow mod informed me that about it as I was laying in bed. Reddit sent a message to the mod team and after 1 hour demoded me. I didn't even had time to see it, never-mind respond to it.

Looks like we rattled reddit enough to start shooting. There goes all that fancy talk about our protest not affecting them much.

Just FYI for now. It's late here so I'll see how we proceed tomorrow.

Following the announcement by beehaw admins to defederate from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works, there has been many posts and messages regarding that decisions and what other instances will do.

I personally believe Lemmy/kbin can only thrive if there is a free flow of content between different instances, with instance admins taking a back seat and focusing more on the infrastructure and making sure the technical bugs are smoothened out. Community mods can moderate their communities, and users can block the communities they don't find appealing (there's even a toggle in settings to hide every NSFW post from your feed altogether).

We don't want to create walled gardens, nor do we want to make Lemmy more confusing than it already is for new users. We will not be defederating from any instance if there is even one good community on it that our instance users might find useful. So far we have only blocked lemmygrad.ml, and right now we have no plans to block anyone else.

Someone has started a community curated list of subreddits that have made a Lemmy or Kbin Instance.

This will help people discover their niche commuities while also preventing fragmentation.

I know people are confused about how fediverse works and how to use it. This is an attempt to compile a list of beginner's guides made by some amazing people on this topic.

I will update this list if any new guide is made so you can save this post for later. Also, if anyone has any good guide to add post it in the comments and I'll add it here.
