I think it's been generalised to 'facing the unexpected-to-me-but-obvious-to-everyone-else consequences of my actions sooner than anticipated'

But those consequences weren't unexpected to anyone? Pretty much anyone knew that if Harris were to lose, Trump was going to win, unless some major third party support just came completely out of nowhere. This is more "These people refused to bend the knee and accept my (maybe) marginally less bad option".
