I would have just taken telepathic will so that it just ends there.

[-] Chronographs@lemmy.zip 52 points 1 month ago

Yeah why would you take wings over telekinetics that’s wild

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 1 month ago

Aesthetics? 🤷🏻‍♂️

[-] FreeAZ@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 month ago

Have fun putting on any sort of shirt.

[-] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago

You don't need a genie to get prop wings on your back.

[-] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

I imagine with telekinetics you need to concentrate real hard on not falling.

With wings you can just (heh) wing it much more safely.

[-] Baguette@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

Just wear a glider jumpsuit so you can just ascend up with telekinesis and then glide the rest

[-] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Can I get the telekinetic head-exploding powers of Victoria Neuman from The Boys?

Also, can I get a list of events where certain politicians will be speaking in front of large public audiences? Asking for a friend.

[-] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

Sure, but what if telepathic powers somehow affect your brain chemistry or morphology? Aside, Would flying be like manipulating gravity or lifting yourself up with an "invisible hand"?

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago

The gravity manipulation is much better if they are handing out options.

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

What's the Roche limit of the ground you're standing on?

[-] morrowind@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Is it just local to yourself? How do you control what it applies to? You'll have train for weightlessness. Plus what is it against? The earth being a object is not something gravity cares about

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Finding out all of the above is part of the fun.

With full, discrete control of gravity, even if it's just localized to your body, you would become the deadliest person on earth. You would be invulnerable to physical impact. Your touch could crush any object. You would be literally unstoppable.

If the power is wider ranging? Well now. Youre a magneto level threat, or more if you want to get into the "can make blackholes" side of things.

[-] morrowind@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

How would you harm anything else if it was local to your body? Like you could apply really strong gravity between you and it, but that would kill you too unless it's an ant

[-] isles@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago

Now you're thinking like a genie.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Your body would have to be entirely or largely immune to the effects of the gravity power to not be crushed by it in general. You certainly wouldn't be able to fly, the basic "wish," if your body was hammered by G forces every time you lifted off.

Since you need some level of immunity, just applying "gravity" to your body then applying your body to other things would excert that force on them.

[-] morrowind@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

You don't have to fly around at 3G. Just set it to 0 and you're floating. 0.1G and you're gently accelerating upwards.

Actually even at 3G you wouldn't be hammered by anything. You're thinking of like cars or whatever that accelerate you and your body's momentum resists. With gravity control, every atom of your body would accelerate. I'm kinda guessing here, but I'm pretty sure you'd feel nothing. In fact the main issue would be adjusting to not feel gravity while flying around, like I said earlier

[-] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

But the giant invisible hand probably allows for more intuative fine control plus its just more satisfying if you want to smash something.

[-] Nelots@lemm.ee 15 points 1 month ago

In order to use telepathy, we'll need to add a new section to your brain. Would you like to shrink the other sections of your brain to make room, or would you like a bigger brain? Oh, you want a bigger brain? Well, now we need to expand your head. Would you prefer an egghead or do you want the whole thing to grow? It will also come at the cost of requiring more energy.

[-] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

So.. You're saying I can eat more? Say no more!!

[-] GraniteM@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Can we put a small brain annex in my abdominal cavity to handle the additional workload? It seems like the autonomic functions could safely be relocated there.

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Dude ''magic'' doesn't require anything.

[-] blind3rdeye@lemm.ee 10 points 1 month ago

Is that a deliberate conscience telepathic effort, or automatic unconscious reflex? (eg. Perhaps you don't want to accidentally hover or float in public.)

[-] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

How much energy does telepathy use though?

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

ok well moving an object still requires energy, so you're gonna need the increased metabolism perk. We'll have to increase blood flow to the brain, oh and it'll need to be increased in mass a lot...how do you feel about a tall head?

[-] frog@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

Some how this ended up with erectile dysfunction..

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 3 points 1 month ago

You mean "telpthic will power".

[-] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

You're the second person to use 'telepathic will' in these comments and both times are vague as to what that means.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago

Telekinesis that I can control at will.
