I'm waist deep into A History of Selangor book right now and apparently the American miners I mentioned a few days ago did start a tin mining operation near Reko (near Kajang) using Orang Hitam labourers. 🤔

Could be Orang Asli as well? Africans seem like such a ways away but fascinating fact regardless

This was a recounting from the local Malays, who always knew the orang aslis by other, more specific, names. Even the book clarified them as Blacks.

I forgot to date the story but it's from the 1840s.

Anyway, here's a full excerpt:

Could be? Imagine being the American blacks, with their mixed christian-voodoo-west african beliefs, transplanted for labour to a foreign land with no b*tches. What do? 🤔
