On this week this niche leftist forum was first launched (its was the 24th or 25th i think) Formed from the Chapotraphouse subreddit remnants that survived the reddit ban over the calls of violence against confederate slave owners, the first admins decided to use Lemmy as its base. Originally called Chapo.chat (ChaCha) Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.
In this last 5 years hexbear has survived many diffent events from numerous struggle sessions, mod clique-users conflicts, wrecker incursions from other instances and sites, this image , a decent amount of fedidrama with other instances and the domain crisis, we still thrive with over 5 million comments and 375k posts.
I still continue my dictatorial rule over the general megathread for now over 4 years now, this time locked in the chapo comm so it can be more easily moderated, c/indigenous has now grown to 750 subs which im very happy plus now i take care of the empoc mega which has been pretty chill so far.
I still really enjoy the fedidrama, it fun to see all the fedilibs always thinking about hexbear despide the fact that they are on defederated instances and they can ust ignore us, we live rent free on their minds

Gotta move a CNC program onto a machine. These Wire EDMs are one of the few machines on the shop floor which don't have FANUC controllers, which means instead of sending the program over RS-232 we can do fancy shit like SMB. So I double-click on the desktop shortcut for the machine's network share. Windows says "this resource has moved." No it fucking hasn't, it weighs at least eight thousand pounds. I click OK, Windows automatically deletes the shortcut. Motherfucker, that shortcut had the machine's IP address in it and now you've left me with nothing but my dick in my hands.
In summary, fuck Microsoft.
IDK. Maybe it got moved to the "recycling bin." I'm better off just walking to the machine and figuring out it's IP address, but that's a tomorrow problem.
i once had expensive thingy at work where when anything not expected happens my job was to write an email to firm, and twiddle thumbs. good times.
We do that sometimes too, but the OEM technicians aren't what they used to be either. Last time we had an OEM service from this vendor, they did the service on the wrong machine lmao. I end up repairing a lot of this shit myself. OEM service is a last resort. A Hail Mary.
This particular problem is specifically just a Windows 11 thing though, on an ordinary PC administered by IT. The DC adapter for a network switch gets unplugged (or something along those lines) and the OS decides to just shitcan the configuration because "the thing is gone." (I don't blame IT though. Those guys are alright. They're doing a good job supporting a network environment with hundreds of embedded systems running ancient, vulnerable OSes. They haven't given me any shit for installing Emacs, Cygwin, Python, Git, PrusaSlicer, SolveSpace, and FreeCAD either, even though they definitely KNOW. I've simply pinged machines and seen them show up on the shop floor wondering where the hell did that come from).
there is something jokerifying about saving 10k on calling service, and getting slap on the back.
on the other hand, technicians being like i gotta call hq with this problem, my secret_manual.pdf is not enough are also
