They also know all of that shit isn't real though, because they are actually getting info and training based on actual observation. They know Portland isn't a "war zone." They know they're being used as political puppets. Some of them are probably fine with that but a lot of them signed up to do actual real things, or at least only be mobilized towards actual threats.

These people are in the National Guard. They have day jobs, they're residents of Oregon, many of them are probably from Portland.

No one is a monolith even the military. It is a fools belief that soldiers for the empire are a monolith.

Not really, the military actually skews young so they tend to be more liberal than you'd think. POC are also over-represented in the military, and they skew left as well. Polling showed they voted for Bernie at a rate much higher than the average population, for example.

It's just that in the military, even die-hard liberals are going to be "just following orders". Now that it's an all-volunteer force, we are long from the days of rebelliousness during the Vietnam War.
