Israel going too mask off threatens to unite the Arab world and kick off a much bigger conflict that would threaten US interests. The cooler heads at the pentagon sent out a memo to all their media assets telling them to crank the "nuance meter" slightly more towards the Palestine side to send a message to Bibi to fucking cool it or he's gonna be looking as less concrete western support.

There have also been enough U.S. deaths already that they could have tried to justify full U.S. involvement. That they can't or won't do anything more than occasionally hitting Syria with an airstrike is a good sign, but I do wonder what happens when there is some obvious damage and death that they can't cover up with "died in a training exercise" or "had cardiac arrest."
