1943 saw 8 million people in the US military, we have to go back to 1941 to see it smaller than it is today.

I was mainly joking, but I think it is interesting that they use the term "in 80 years" rather than "before ww2." The second paints a very different picture and might have Americans question why their military has needed to be so large, bigger than it was during the biggest war in history.
