I wish I could join the army. Imagine being a cute 168cm hooman fighting alongside the communist bug bretheren. At night we'd snuggle in a bug pile, say "don't let the bed humans bite you", laugh about it and then snooze happily. But nooo, I have to live under capitalism and observe the passage of time until I'm homeless and jobless. :(((((((

No the sequels are all generic Sci fi / thrillers, none of the subsequent directors were able to come anywhere near the tone of the first one. The second one I think is kind of a spin on Species where there's a new infiltrator bug that turns into a hot lady and picks off the cast stationed at a remote outpost one by one with her feminine wiles.

It does have a good ending, where

spoilerThe jaded deserter who fragged his commanding officer, who despite being an effective soldier has been spitting on the Federation the whole movie, dies holding off bugs so a transport ship can escape... and then his actual death montages straight into a recruitment ad by the Federation praising him as a hero and retconning his literal last words from "Murderers don't get to go home" to "Don't cry for me, my glory lives forever!"

I haven't actually seen any of the sequels in about a decade, think I watched them all once during a marathon showing on Syfy
