Yeah, they seem to think money (or sometimes gold) has some kind of intrinsic value that will survive an apocalypse. If you really want to be "rich" post societal collapse, learn to farm and garden so you can grow food for people, or learn how to collect and treat rainwater. Skills will be the most vital thing, even valuable goods will have their limits (and depending on how things go, people could always just take them from you by force).
