There were some that left during the real hard times after the collapse of the USSR.
There was one at my work and we had a good long conversation about how you're not really free in the US and in Cuba he felt far more free not trapped by rent and wage.
That’s true, but I don’t know how privileged they are (certainly more than Palestinians).
