I don't know anything about the channel, Earthling Ed, and usually don't watch these kinds of "debates". But I was interested in this one because I wanted to see how a vegan activist would approach indigenous practices towards hunting.

I have to say, the student came across terribly. They were not indigenous, but kept using indigenous practices and worldviews to defend their own personal meat consumption. Now, there were a lot of different camera angles and cuts in the video, so it could be edited to make the student look bad. But, as far as I can see, the student said "because Indigenous people living in far off places need to kill to be able to survive, we in the city should be able to as well."

Yeah she did her best but this kind of Indigenous fetishism and appropriation is rampant in anti-vegan attitudes and it makes me sad. It also erases the voices of Indigenous vegans.

Indigenous people believe that rock has a soul.

Ooof I can't imagine a more crude and generalizing view of the thousands of separate spiritualties held by Indigenous people.

I hate it too, almost anything can be justified or be turned into a sin for the sake of "solidarity" that way.

  • LGBT protections? You did an antisemitism sweaty :)

  • People should be allowed to choose their labor regardless of gender!? Sheesh! What did the indigenous ever do to you!?

  • You think monarchy is bad!? That goes against the mandate of heaven so clearly you're sinophobic!

Lmao you're gonna have to connect the dots on that first one for me, unless it's just random (in which case fair point, lol)

Kinda, I'm demonstrating how with a GREAT deal of stretching, you can make a justification or demonization for anything.
