This reminded me of the time when people were admiring a twelve‐year‐old who mowed lawns to save money for college, utterly indifferent to the blockheadedness of not only privatizing advanced education but making it obnoxiously expensive as well.

I don’t see anybody applauding Subsaharan or Congolese children for successfully making ends meet. It’s because the oppressive situation shocks us more than the victims’ achievements impress us.
