๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ the wonders of unicode / utf-8

it the reason why you can post in any imaginable writing system from ancient sumerian complaints in cuneiform ๐’‚๐’€€ ๐’ˆพ๐’ข๐’…• to the goddamn seraphim o "ัะตั€ะฐั„ะธะผะธ ะผะฝะพะณะพ๊™ฎา„ั‡ะธั‚ั—ะธา„" that was used exactly once in a single 15century manuscript.

its also the reason you can post emojis nearly anywhere.

Yeah, UTF-8 is great, but ASCII had a character that made a sound.

I tried to click that despite reading that you tried to click that and eye rolled at your self

We need an emoji that says "bruh" then.

[-] robotica@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

The first 127 or 255 characters of UTF-8 are just ASCII if I'm not mistaken, for backwards compatibility with ASCII-based systems

How dare you write the name of a man who sells inferior copper!

[-] idegenszavak@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 months ago

I love that we have so much type of o-s. These are all different characters:

oะพฮฟึ…๐œŠ๐›๐„๐พ๐žธ

[-] perviouslyiner@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

that was used exactly once

Similar to how it had every Japanese village name, including some which never existed

I love how no one has given a precise answer to this question:
