In German it's "to compare apples and pears" which is even more preposterous since they are very closely related.

My thoughts exactly. All online spaces unless they offer a manually curated, child friendly experience and live moderation.

Proton generally works pretty well but there is a slight performance hit. Depending on your setup you may not even notice it but especially with some less recent GPUs it can make a substantial difference. Games that run natively usually run an well or better compared to Windows. And then there's a few that don't work on Linux because of some anticheat but I don't play online a lot so no idea about the specifics.

Reddit has this feature and I used to use it all the time. I feel like this might be the reason many lemmings delete their posts after a while. Not like you get bombarded with notifications on here but still. Sometimes I ask a question and once I have a couple of answers I'm "done" with the post. I want to leave it up for others though so muting it would be ideal.

So afaik there's no definitive answer as to why they do it. I heard it's an attempt to lure prey closer but I find that not very convincing as I can't believe it would ever actually work, especially since they make the same sound for mice, birds and even insects.

I've observed two aspects about it that I haven't heard anywhere before: They only make the sound when the prey is out of reach and there's a social aspect to it. I've tested both myself. If you want to you can test the social aspect too. Next time your cat is locked in on a bird outside the window just make a vaguely chitter-esque sound and there's a good chance it will join in. I do it a lot since I've discovered it's contagious for them. Really gets them riled up and ready for murder ๐Ÿ˜…

My best guess is when cats do this they're basically stimming, similar to purring. They don't have naturally great attention spans but they need to stay focused on the prey in case it moves within range. Producing a sound might help them stay in the zone. The fact that it can be triggered by making the same sound does puzzle me a little. Maybe it's just a way for them to bond, sort of like howling in wolfs. Hunting is very important to them after all so actively stalking prey together could be a way to strenghten the relationship. I don't think they do it as a hunting strategy though. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen house cats actually hunt together as a team.

Ok enough yapping out of me. What are your thoughts? Do you have theories of your own? And have you ever chittered together with your cat? ๐Ÿ˜„

I love this game. It's a cell shaded coming of age adventure where you ride your scooter around the desert and explore ruins or meet unique characters. It's easily worth full price imo so this is definitely a steal.

We were thinking beaver but don't they have orange teeth? Anyway looking forward to hearing your expertise.

I do it a lot when I'm on the phone or when I'm listening to a presentation or anything where I have a piece of paper in front of me really. I think doodles are super fascinating. I never mean to doodle and sometimes I only notice it after I'm already done. They're art created straight by the subcoscious in a way.

Mine are often quite large and have little whitespace left. Big, intertwining blotches with soft curves and neatly filled in lines. I'll see if I can find one to share in the comments.

So I've tried Mastodon a couple times now and so far it simply doesn't click. Which is fine, it doesn't have to. But I'm thinking maybe I just don't know how to navigate the platform yet. Is it as interactive as Lemmy or is everyone kinda shouting into the void? Is there an equivalent to communities? If not, how do you find stuff you care about? And is reblogging the equivalent to upvoting? Is it like a like and share in one? Do they have memes there or what's the range of content? How does it compare to bluesky? I have used bluesky but the tone there is kinda shallow imo, rarely any meaningful interactions. I'm Gen Z so maybe I'm just not the target audience? But Idk how much that even matters.
