In the north east I heard 天上龙肉地上驴肉

"In the heavens they eat dragon meat, on earth donkey meat"

This is in praise of donkey meat

Fun fact! It's also not just about libertarianism, it's also about climate change and habitat destruction forcing the bears to scavenge in increasingly urbanised fringes of their original foraging grounds the-more-you-know deeper-sadness

Didn't know that about the light source placement, that's really interesting!

Cos some people said they liked my last one this is a WIP. Foxtail grass (the fluffy ones) with a single billy button (the lolipop). Idk what the third one is

Foxtail grass is so soft, you can just grab a stalk and brush it between your fingers. It has small hairs along the stalk too. It has a deep purple colour. The Billy button by contrast is quite solid, despite appearances unfortunately the stalk broke on my walk back so it's too short for this arrangement.

Cecilily discusses the financialisation of Pokemon cards as an investment vehicle.

It's one thing that makes me pause in teaching my niece how to play, I don't want her to get caught up in the abstraction of the cards as anything other than pieces of cardboard with funny pictures of animals

They remind me of a toy I had as a kid that was a hairy ball with led lights at the end.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melaleuca_squamea

Melaleuca, alongside Callistemon (bottlebrush) and leptospermum, are part of the Leptospermum alliance and are popular native shrubs and trees.

Here's a Callistemon sp. that was flowering in my parents' garden last month with a wine-y, deep ruby colour.

I love seeing Maleleuca and Callistemon in full bloom buzzing with beez

(Once again my photos don't do it justice)

This photo is from a bit back (early spring). I haven't been back to see this planting. I love the teal/grey contrasting with the deep pink it looks like a nudibranch. They lighten as they open https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grevillea_petrophiloides
