Is there a good community to request advice on consumer goods? I'm in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. I'm also in the USA.

The old one is a 20-year-old Dyson and it's fine, just a tad loud and the plug gets warmer than I'd like. Good suckage.

I'm distrustful of online review sites because they all sound like paid vacuum cleaner salesfolk.

Normally I use archive.is but oddly this NYT article I'm looking for isn't even available even though it's from 2013. It seems ridiculous to keep an article that's over a decade old behind a paywall.

Are there communities that help access paywalled information?

Thanks!

Update: You the downvoters are perverts. I will build my personal instance soon and repost this to see who I can ban from my profile due to the negative post rep

Does a community exist to help people learn to spot more sophisticated bot activity and algorithm control on social media platforms. I was thinking of something where people could share screen shots of weird activity to warn others, similar to teaching people how to spot disinformation propaganda? Or a place where information is available focused on discussing bot activity.

I feel like that will be a useful skill to have in the coming years.

A songwriting community, for musicians and amateur sound designers?

I'm not referring to r/politics (or equivalents). Rather a group that identifies potential problems (i.e widespread obesity) ; why it may be happening (i.e too much sugar in food) ; and potential ways society can fix this problem?

I have found some hilarious comments and wanted to share them, but was looking for a more dedicated community (like greentext/peopletwitter)

Not crazy ideas, not specific to business, product or service ideas but just any good ideas in general whether it be for the latter or a tip, hack, advice, or just something that people think should exist but doesn't or an idea to improve anything that exists, etc. Practical, doable things.

I tried to post this pic above in lemmy.world/c/lemmyshitpost and in lemmy.world/c/politicalmemes but both communities removed it. Where should I post it?

I would like to post this pic somewhere but am unsure of where, without it being removed by mods. It may be important to note, that I do not have a news article to link to either of these pics.

Thank you.

I am trying to get the full version of an article in AdAge, which is paywalled. Unfortunately, 13ft ladder gets blocked by AdAge's DDoS protection, Internet Archive doesn't return the full article, and my university can't help (despite having access to the publication).

However, people with subscriptions to AdAge can "donate" articles to non-paying individuals. Seeing as how I only need the one article, I am asking around online if anyone can help.

Is there a community on Lemmy where it would be appropriate to ask?

Not for deep interests, but you know like that old song about someone’s favorite things where the examples are all like copper kettles. Where you might write a few sentences about the little thing you like.

I find it fascinating how diffierent newspapers/magazines etc. try to convey political messages on their front cover, and show virtue signaling.

Is there anywhere to share them? Both “good” (as in I agree with the message) and “bad” ones, and both historical and current.

On reddit r/propagandaposters was great for the historical ones
