This is the way. I just love the "fuck you, Danielle!" energy.

[-] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 71 points 1 week ago

I hope other first nations and communities send her more letters like this. If you want to be american so badly just move there and leave the rest of us out of it.

[-] rabber@lemmy.ca 46 points 1 week ago

That's something I can't understand. Most of my family back in Alberta would vote to join US and have been saying it for years. Why don't they just move there? It's not hard

I think it's all a boo hoo victim mentality to avoid personal accountability. Those people's lives suck because they are dumb, not because of Ottawa, lol

You just described most problems in western society. Sincerely your southern neighbor.

FYI the greater-than symbol (>) will give you that quote look you want

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago

They've been saying for years they would vote for Canada to be part of the USA? I had no idea this retardation predated orange Hitler. Tell them an American said they're dumb as hell for wanting to join them.

[-] rabber@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Yeah I have been hearing about wanting to join US in the Red Deer area almost my entire life.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

The same people say that Quebecers are traitors to Canada. You can't make that shit up because they do...

[-] IvanOverdrive@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It's the "only moral abortion is my abortion" phenomena.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Very good observation.

[-] vaccinationviablowdart@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

There's been chinwagging forever... Except that unlike the Qubecois they lack the ability to actually get their shit together to organize for it. Instead all energy is spent attempting to implement a chisto-fascist takeover of all Canada to make everyone as dumb as they are.

wow fucking r-slur out of fucking nowhere clean your shit up

It's way easier to live in Canada and get mad about anything you perceive as better in the US while reaping all the benefits of being Canadian. Blue state Republicans do the same.

[-] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

it's all a boo hoo victim mentality to avoid personal accountability.

This is the nucleus of the conservative mindset. This right here. This is the DNA, the required personality trait, the price of admission to the conservative club.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

1000% correct, they would rather whine about Ottawa fucking them in some way then actually doing work to change their material outcomes. It comes from intellectual laziness if you ask me.

[-] bowreality@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Right? I was so happy to see these letter. She needs to go!

[-] pixxelkick@lemmy.world 103 points 1 week ago

Holy shit this is the first peice of news out of alberta I've been happy to see in a hot minute.

Absolutely based

[-] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 95 points 1 week ago

It's not news out of Alberta, it's news out of sturgeon lake Cree nations land..Alberta is just squatting.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

Where my Clovis people at?

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Just to pre-empt where this is going, sure, the Earth was here before all of us. But unlike the Clovis people, First Nations are still here and suffering from what my ancestors did, which is why that leads to misunderstanding when emphasised.

[-] fnord@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Sure, but they aren’t the people who were there centuries ago… those people are long dead. And anyway the Cree themselves weren’t the original settlers of Alberta, they expanded westward because of the fur trade and took a lot of land from the Blackfoot, Stoney and Dene people….

The Cree have no more right to the land than anyone else born in Alberta.

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 1 week ago

I mean, you can state that, but you haven't actually supported it. And that's before you get into the fact our legal system says they do.

13000 years ago. You are off topic.

[-] phanto@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 week ago

I have a house in Alberta. I wonder if there's a way to cede my property back to the Treaty nations when I die... They deserve it more than my relatives do.

[-] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago

You may want to contact the First Nations band office closest to you (or another band office of your choosing) and speak to them about it.

First Nations, Inuit and Metis people will save the rest of us from idjits like Smith and Drug Fraud.

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago

We have a huge amount to learn from the First Nations and the French about sovereignty. It will also be quite interesting to see how the 51st state bullshit goes over with them.

[-] vaccinationviablowdart@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Can't rely on other people to do the work.

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 week ago

It's a hell of a way of repaying us for all the nasty shit we did.

[-] HRP58@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 week ago

Smith speaks for a minority only and the press loves it and feeds it. The silent majority are 100% Canada.

[-] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Wow

Based Based Based Based Based Based

[-] Albbi@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago

Oh what is Danielle Smith up to now? Fuck.

[-] rabber@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Successfully riling up a separation movement

I left Alberta 8 years ago because I was unhappy. Why can't these stupid motherfuckers do it too?

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 week ago

Where to? I wish I could afford BC...

[-] rabber@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

I moved to Victoria but it was really difficult yeah

[-] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Hey! Me too!

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

Do you have an article with background to share? :)

[-] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

What info would you like, ie: on the treaties, or the SCoC rulings, etc?

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 week ago

Dope! I wonder if there's actual legal force here.

[-] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 week ago

There is. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled multiple times on Indigenous land rights and, for the most part, have ruled in favour of the treaties with First Nations communities and people.

Smith doesn't have a leg to stand on here.
