I thought they meant "Not if you are still on Plasma 5" but maybe I misinterpreted it.

I’ve been thinking about this often lately as well. These fucking corporations with multiple billions at their disposal, and all they can produce is shit like Windows or macOS? AND it also costs money to use? AND it has ads in it?

Not only do I agree with you, I also want to point out the telemetry whackamole for those who care. (And those who don't care aren't going to bother with the whackamole, but their privacy is being violated just the same as those who do care.)

they’ve duplicated the censorship thing that reddit likes to do with defederations

I disagree that defederation is censorship, but no worries, we don't have to agree! However:

i switched to lemmy.ml since it doesn’t defederate with anybody

https://lemmy.ml/instances

If you switch to the "blocked" tab you'll see that this is absolutely not true.

One of my primary criteria when I needed to make a new lemmy account (due to problems with my original instance) was to be sure I picked an instance that had pre-emptively defederated from Threads. (as .ml does, but there are a lot more in that list)

As a litmus test, what was the point when you felt Rage Against The Machine became too political?

No one in power will give a shit until it looks like it might hurt the bottom line of the billionaire class.

As long as they keep profiting from keeping us all buried in debt, nothing will change.

MC5

"Barbarians At The Gate"

They're running up the steps

Blood coming out of their eyes

Pissin' into the wind

With the truth left behind

Comedy of thievery

In a red white and blue disguise

Smell of treachery

False battle cry

Pride and deception

Confusion dissent

Misdirection and chaos

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' bangin' bangin'

Barbarians are at the gate

Barbarians are at the gate

They wanna live a lie on the edge of hate

Barbarians are at the gate

Take away the costume

Fake uniform

Arms held high

A victory dance

Chokin' in a world torn

Power and deception

Confusion dissent

Misdirection and chaos

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' bangin' bangin'

Barbarians are at the gate

Oh yeah

Power and deception

Abuse and consent

Misdirection and chaos

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' on the door

Bangin' bangin' bangin'

Barbarians are at the gate

Barbarians are at the gate

They wanna live a lie on the edge of hate

Barbarians are at the gate

Oh yeah

Here they come again

Oh yeah

It's never gonna end

Oh is it

Everybody loses

This album came out 53 years after their prior studio album, and they still rocked it, IMO.

So, in other words, Trump is going to do exactly what he told us he would do.

The Madison Square Garden rally, operatic in its repulsive bigotry, will almost certainly alienate more voters who might have voted for Trump.

Will it really? Is there someone out there who didn't know until this event that he was a bigot and an awful person and is now going to change their mind?

As for whether he forgives Morrissey, Carroll said: “I guess I would have to say yes in the spirit of forgiveness, reluctantly. But if I had to be a smartass, I’d say her apology holds about as much water as my canvas bag.”

Rock on buddy.

I'm cool with that, but folks should also remember this:

Sofia Orr is likely to become the first woman since then to be jailed for refusing military service, but believes it is ‘wrong to take children and make them into soldiers’

And she's right.

I read that and was like "of fucking course they did." Honestly the next paragraph makes it even worse, IMO.

Authorities were heard asking the man – “May I help you, sir?” – at first but as soon as he was engulfed in flames they started yelling at him to get down on the ground. They even drew their guns on the burning man before someone pushed them to get fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire.

Threats of physical violence are the only tool they have in their toolbox. THE ONLY tool.

Gen Z seems to be refusing to swallow the bullshit the rest of us grew up having fed to us. A shame I'll be close to aging out by the time they get much political power.
