professional (lemmy.world)

so when having professional phone calls at work, its gotten to the point that asking 'how are you?' seems tone deaf. is it just me?

remember the posters for Episode I, when we all thought we would see the character development and learn to understand and even empathize with pure evil? The movie Wicked pulled that off.

how to avoid appearing like you just escaped the lower classes:

  • stop keeping everything, just in case you might need it
  • stop buying random crap without seeing how it can justify your space/money/time.
  • stop eating garbage. eat consciously, expect you will need to feel great instead of stopping hunger.
  • stop keeping in touch with toxic people just because you might need them someday.
  • stop seeking attention with the way you dress and talk, etc. don't appear needy. aim for tasteful.
  • preventative maintenance. fix things that are wonky before they fail at a bad time.
  • appear competent and secure, give eye contact, listen.

the walls of a bus are sheetmetal thin, while car doors are padded with soundproofing and foam and handles and speakers and airbags and multiple layers of metal. plus the bus seats are benches for easy side movement while cars have bucket seats and seatbelts.

i think actual information is way too difficult to suss out these days with the misinformation campaigns and the paywalls and the trolling, etc.

shit try to do some comparison shopping today and try to figure out which reviews are real and if the thing you're buying is really the thing you think you're buying.

the Curtis JN-4 "Jenny" cruised at 40-60 mph, slow enough for wing-walkers to stand despite airflow. this photo has Ivan Unger and Gladys Roy miming a tennis match.

Gladys died at 25 years old in 1927 when she distractedly walked into the spinning propellor of a plane on the ground.
