Karl Marx, born on this day in 1818, was a foundational political theorist and journalist associated with the philosophy of Marxism.

Among Marx's best-known texts are the "The Communist Manifesto" and the three-volume "Das Kapital", in which he set out to define and explain the behavior of the capitalist mode of production.

Marx's political and philosophical thought have had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history, and his name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a school of social theory.

Marx's critical theories about society, economics and politics - collectively understood as Marxism - hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production, and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labor power in return for wages.

Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx concluded that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

Been trying to figure out where I should move to. Im thinking either Denver or Minneapolis, definitely no where in the south because Im tired of it.

Im siding more with Minneapolis just cuz Im unskilled atm and its easier to be poor there

[-] GeneralSwitch2Boycott@hexbear.net 1 points 17 hours ago

Isn't Denver pretty right-wing and fully of nazi mountain people?

How much more time do we have until collapse? I can't take working any longer.

[-] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago

You will have to work even as it collapses, sorry

I keep accidentally becoming the summer intern lead, but totally fine with that. It’s fun supervising low pressure projects. Also,I seem to be the only one on the team with realistic expectations of what summer students can do, so I feel it protects them a little bit for me to volunteer for it.

This bag of spiced nuts I bought has a small graphic that I can only interpret as "try putting a whole handful of these in your mouth at once, you hog", and just for your information, bag, I was going to do that anyway and didn't need your advice

Holy shit lmao that rocks. Someone needs to sample that nasty beat. How can that possibly fit the vibe of an Indy game.

How did I mix red curry with red lentils, coconut milk and onions and end up with something green. This comment also brought to you by Long Commute. Which has made me check out my packed lunch

Chatting with my anti communist dad is always really funny, because he says a lot of things directed at communism that happen in capitalist countries. And I’m just sitting with a cringe and pained look on my face.

New pope is also infallible. The conclave has done it again. Undefeated record.

If you have been itching to play Deadlock but didn't want to play against the ~60 freaks still playing the alpha who know every single thing about the game, now could be a good time to get into it, they practically remade the item system and no one knows what they are doing

The Anglo Saxon word for fine/levy/tax became the Danish/Norwegian word for "Debt" because of who was on what end of the viking protection racket. This random information brought to you by Long Transportation Times.

Long Transportation Times is a subsidiary of privatised public services.

Andor spoilers

Seeing chuds compare the Ghorman Massacre to January 6th is quite something frothingfash.

Anyway, I fucking loved how Syril’s whole arc - a liberal failson obsessed with law, order, and rooting out “outside agitators” - ends with him realizing, too late, that he was just a pawn helping lay the groundwork for a genocide and resource extraction on Ghorman… right before getting casually shot in the head by a Ghor he had betrayed.

New rock bottom just dropped: instead of doing something actually worthwhile with my life I am just grinding pet battles on a WoW private server

[-] jjsandwich7@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

I am so tired of life. This year has been horrible, easily the worst year of my life by far. failed and dropped out of a fucking high school completion program because of mental breakdowns and I can't get work anywhere because everything requires you to have a high school diploma or GED and all the places that I have applied to have just ignored me. torment
