Mr Loader and Walpole had been partying in Howlong with friends and returned to her backyard about 5am to keep drinking.

Most of the group was heavily intoxicated, and Walpole had consumed cocaine.

Walpole had described Mr Loader as being antagonistic towards her throughout the night, trying to wrestle her and wake her sleeping boyfriend.

Her anger then flared when Mr Loader told her she should stay in the kitchen making scones where she belonged, and not to go drinking with boys.

She left the table where they were drinking to collect a five-litre container of petrol from her garage, and poured it on Mr Loader before waving around her lighter.

Mr Loader said, "Go on, do it," before Walpole set him on fire.

they hate to see a girlboss winning 😔

He was literally asking for it

[-] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 32 points 2 months ago

Does it count as informed consent?

[-] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago

I would simply not provoke the person who had just doused me in gasoline and produced a lighter

[-] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago

please refer to the judge as 'your honour'

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 62 points 2 months ago

Personally the moment someone starts pouring gasoline on me, my instinct is that they will in fact "do it" and I'm gonna run for my life.

I know everyone is different and some people will make pretty morbid jokes and empty threats but I think that "while covered in flammable liquids" is not the time to escalate.

Going to have to agree here. Even the most irony poisoned of my friends wouldn't get a pass from me on this one

[-] Wheaties@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

yeah, "irony" or "bits" is for words, not actions

[-] frogbellyratbone_@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago

that dude's masculinity was so fragile no way he'll turn and run for his life. he gotta be a big macho man and tough boy act of "do it"

[-] hollowmines@hexbear.net 53 points 2 months ago

I do think it is wrong to set people on fire, but surely the court can offer a somewhat reduced sentence due to the FAFO of it all.

[-] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 47 points 2 months ago

This sounds consensual, I'd never tell anyone to light me on fire

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 2 months ago

I hope she gets jury nullified if that's a thing in the Kangarooland

I can't fix her

because there's nothing to fix shrug-outta-hecks

Good to see inflammatory speech getting an inflammatory response

So that is what happens when you let intrusive thoughts win.

Seems like a civil matter to me pearl-clutch

Mr Loader can no longer expose his skin to the sun, and struggles with temperature regulation as his sweat glands were burnt off.

he can be buddies with prince andrew in his dungeon

wish this had been reported earlier so I could have gone to cheer for her lol

You really should not be drinking if you suspect you might

unleash a load of extremely misogynistic comments to your childhood friend

Be kind, for everyone you see is fighting an invisible battle and sometimes they use incendiaries

[-] btbt@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago

I’m kind of confused how this happened logistically. Did she just have all the tools for lighting her friend of fire on standby, or did she have to leave to go get them? Did the friend just stand there and let her do it because he thought it would be fun? Someone please explain, I won’t read the article to find out how she did it myself because I don’t feel like it

[-] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 2 months ago

[-] btbt@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago

Very nice of him to let her go through with it, he must have known how special getting to do this would be for her

[-] isame@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

She had to go get the stuff. She even waved the lighter in front of him, after dousing him in fuel. He tried to call her bluff. Go on, do it. So, she done did the damn thing.

[-] WeedReference420@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

Walpole had consumed cocaine

This is why I'm more of an MDMA kind of guy

That said the jury should acquit

[-] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago

Mr Pincott said Walpole's actions were so far beyond reasonable proportion that there was no argument of provocation.

? I think it's justified

[-] RION@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

I think she should not have done that
