Or perhaps the end of the beginning, if you're a little more pessimistic.

Image is from this Bloomberg article, from which I also gathered some of the information used in the preamble.

While Trump was off in the Middle East in an incompetent attempt to solve a geopolitical and humanitarian crisis, China has been doing something much more productive.

Chinese officials, including Xi Jinping, had a summit with CELAC (a community of 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries). There, he promised investment, various declarations of friendship, and visa-free entry for 30 days for citizens of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay. Lula signed over 30 agreements with China. Colombia is joining the New Development Bank and hopes to gain the money for a 120-kilometer railway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts as an alternative route to the Panama Canal. Even Argentina, ruled by arch-libertarian and arch-dipshit (but I repeat myself) Milei, was uncharacteristically polite with China as he secured a currency swap renewal to shore up their international reserves.

It wouldn't really be correct to say that Latin America is "siding with China over the US" - leaders in the region will continue to make many deals with America for the foreseeable future, and even Trump's bizarre economic strongman routine won't make them break off economic and diplomatic relations. What's significant here is that despite increasing American pressure for those leaders to break off all ties with China, few appear to be listening - and given that China is perhaps the most important economy on the planet right now, that is a very predictable outcome.

As the current American empire takes actions to try and avoid their doom, those very actions only guarantee it. As Latin America grows ever more interconnected with China and continues to develop, America will grow ever more panicked and demanding, and this feedback loop will - eventually - result in the death of the Monroe Doctrine.

This Penn State poll on israeli sentiment was posted to a few subs on reddit, but I haven't seen it here.

Highlights include:

The survey was conducted by one of the HMs at the request of Penn State University, among 1,005 respondents who constitute a representative sample of the Jewish population in Israel.

To the question "Do you support the claim that the IDF, when conquering an enemy city, should act in a manner similar to the way the Israelites acted when they conquered Jericho under the leadership of Joshua, that is,* kill all its inhabitants*?" 47% of all respondents responded in the affirmative.

...82% of those surveyed expressed support for the forced expulsion of residents of the Gaza Strip, and 56% supported the forced expulsion of Arab citizens of Israel. In the 2003 survey, the positive answers to these questions were “only” 45% and 31%, respectively.

...69% of secularists support the forcible expulsion of Gaza residents, and 31% of them see the extermination of Jericho residents as a precedent that the IDF should adopt.

...66% of those aged 40 and under support the deportation of Arab citizens of Israel, and 58% want to see the IDF do what Joshua did in Jericho.

...It is difficult to find anyone who would refuse clearly illegal orders, such as starving hundreds of thousands, creating extermination zones, or bombing densely populated residential neighborhoods. Only 9% of men under 40, the main group from which regular and reserve servicemen in Gaza come, rejected all the ideas of deportation and extermination that were presented to them.

I wasn't sure what "Joshua did to Jericho", and I was unsurprised to find out that the story ends like this: "Following God's law, the Israelites killed every man and woman, the young and the old, as well as the oxen, sheep, and donkeys. Only Rahab, her parents, brothers and all "those who belonged to her" were spared. They were incorporated into Israel."

What a repulsive society. Completely irredeemable. A stain on humanity and history.

Comrades, I have something to say. After studying history for many years, and suffering from certain personal experiences like periodic economic crisis, friends losing their homes and jobs, myself being overly exploited by bosses without names or faces, the material conditions of those around me become much worse, misery all over the place, I have reached a conclusion: The collapse of the Soviet Union is the largest tragedy in human history. Since 1991 things have only deteriorated. Everything gets progressively shittier over time.

However: It will stop being like that. It will be over.

Our journey towards emancipation begins with the thorough destruction of "israel". We need an example, our "Bastille", to begin our counteroffensive. "Israel" is the representation of the "western values", their most precious creation. Break it. Break the spine of the genocidal west.

I always see people asking why world leaders don’t speak up about Gaza, the Palestinian hostages, the WB, or the famine... The thing is, there is a leader who talks about all of that, and more, in great detail every single week. His name is Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, the leader of Ansar Allah and the man leading Yemen’s fight against imperialism and Zionism.

Y'all better start listening to him instead of complaining, and stop looking in the wrong place for guidance and support. Press TV dubs his speeches live each Thursday.

I'm fairly certain Biden's handlers have known about his cancer and kept it secret for a couple years, which is bad enough on its own.

But I just realized that would also mean they purposely forwent any treatment that might have been publicly noticeable, like chemo.

They let his cancer get worse to keep up appearances. That's literally elder abuse in probably one of the worst forms.

(Not that he doesn't deserve it. But it's insane that they did it.)

If Corbyn ever gets into government by some miracle turn around in Britain I sincerely hope he's feeling vindictive enough to go after every single one of these ghoulish fucks for their part in supporting and defending this genocide. They deserve to rot in prison and he would be in a position to get supreme revenge for what they did to him in the party.

I don't think he is vindictive enough but holy shit he really should go after them all if that opportunity arises.

They all deserve worse than jail but i'd settle for it. Watching kids starve in real time live with nothing we can do about it is breaking my heart and filling me with a fire for inflicting pain to the ghouls that I can not describe.

According to the PFLP, the enemy camp is a triad: The Israeli Entity (Zionist movement), global imperialism, and Arab reactionaries. This, the Front argued, was a precise diagnosis of the conflict. Consequently, it maintained that targeting the enemy should not be restricted by geography, since the enemy itself had made the entire world a battlefield.

https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2025/05/21/748365/Israeli-forces-open-fire-on-diplomatic-delegation-visiting-Jenin-refugee-camp

Israeli forces stationed at Jenin refugee camp have fired live ammunition at a diplomatic delegation as it was entering the camp to view the living conditions of the refugees.

The diplomats that visited the camp on Wednesday were from Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, France, India, Japan, Jordan, Lithuania, Mexico Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Spain, Turkey, the EU, and the UK, along with representatives from several other countries and journalists accompanying them.

The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates had organized the visit for the international community to witness the Israeli regime’s ongoing aggression against the Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank.

The Ministry had arranged a similar visit to Tulkarem city and the refugee camp in the northern West Bank last week.

WAFA news agency reported that the delegation wanted to enter the camp from the eastern gate, where the regime has installed an iron gate, when the soldiers fired live ammunition directly and heavily at the diplomats and their entourage.

In a statement, the Ministry said, “This aggressive act constitutes a flagrant and serious violation of the provisions of international law and the most basic rules of diplomatic relations stipulated in the 1961 Vienna Convention, which guarantees protection and immunity for diplomatic missions and delegations.”

After the incident, the delegation visited the Jenin Governorate headquarters and reviewed the situation in the camp and the city.

The camp governor, Mohammed Jarrar, explained in detail the city's disastrous economic condition, the war's impact on its facilities, and the destruction of infrastructure.

More importantly, he described the extremely inhumane circumstances under which 22,000 Palestinians have been forced to abandon their homes and live in the tyrannical conditions the Israeli regime has forced upon them.

Later, the Ministry condemned the assault by the occupation forces on the diplomatic delegation invited by the Palestinian Authority.

Since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime began its genocidal war against Gaza, the number of attacks by settlers and occupation forces on the Palestinians of the Occupied West Bank has increased dramatically.

The Israeli regime has also killed at least 1,000 Palestinians and abducted 7,000 in the occupied West Bank.

Israel's going to literally be firing on your fucking diplomats and you're still not going to back off from them. There's just absolutely no limit to anything they can do.

I spoke to some people working in executive positions for small to medium-sized Danish naval contractors recently. They told me that five years ago all the people from the industry were gathered by the navy for meetings on constructing new patrol ships. Many people drew large salaries for going to a lot of meetings. Nothing has been built yet. Now they're starting over from scratch, this time not just to build patrol ships but to build an entire new navy. Many people are drawing large salaries to go to a lot of meetings again.

The regime wants to build the new navy domestically. However, and these executives were very aware of this, the capacity to build large ships doesn't exist in the west anymore. The large shipyards have all been closed down and converted to other uses and even though Denmark still has a capacity for maritime engineering, design and architecture, the skilled workers needed to actually build the ships are not there anymore. And even if they were, nobody would want to pay a couple of hundred of them the salaries they would have to. There's a reason why ship building was outsourced in the first place.

The regime plans to get around this by letting a hundred subcontractors bloom, each building parts of the new ships in different locations. Then all the parts are going to be gathered in the harbour of Esbjerg and welded together there. The executives didn't think much of that idea. They thought that the way to get around having to employ 300 ship builders is to sprinkle the magic fairy dust of technology on the new naval shipyard, somehow using robotics and the line to reduce the number of workers to a hundred.

I don't think their idea of robotic domestic shipyards is that much less delusional than the one-piece-at-the-time scheme imagined by the regime. As if Asian shipyards were not already using robotics where possible. Also, unlike the west, China and other Asian countries have an actual shipbuilding industry that can be leveraged to develop new fancy high-tech solutions, the west doesn't.

Trump bans foreign students from enrolling at Harvard. Current students must transfer or be deported.

Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration revoked Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students in its escalating battle with the Ivy League school, saying thousands of current students must transfer to other schools or leave the country.

The Department of Homeland Security announced the action Thursday, saying Harvard has created an unsafe campus environment by allowing “anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators” to assault Jewish students on campus. Without offering evidence, it also accused Harvard of coordinating with the Chinese communist party.

“This means Harvard can no longer enroll foreign students and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status,” the agency said in a statement.

Harvard enrolls almost 6,800 foreign students at its campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, accounting for more than a quarter of its student body. Most are graduate students, coming from more than 100 countries.

“This administration is holding Harvard accountable for fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus,” Kristi Noem said in a statement.

The administration revoked Harvard’s certification in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, which gives the school the ability to sponsor international students to get their visas and attend school in the United States

Palestinian Faction Leaders Leave Damascus Amid Syrian Pressure and Crackdown

full textSeveral Palestinian faction leaders, including Khaled Jibril(PFLP-GC) and Khaled Abdul Majid (PPSF) left Damascus after coming under pressure from Syrian authorities. Their properties, including homes and offices, were confiscated despite no official expulsion orders.

The factions have been effectively banned from operating. They handed over all weapons, and authorities demanded names of members with personal arms. A source said there's no real cooperation with the new Syrian administration.

The crackdown follows a request by US President Trump for Syria to expel Palestinian "terrorists" in exchange for lifting sanctions. Syrian authorities recently detained Islamic Jihad leaders and briefly held Talal Naji.

I’ve mentioned before on an older account, but from around 2013-2016 I spent an inordinate amount of time lurking on Stormfront - not Reddit, I mean the real Stormfront. It was fascinating, I just couldn’t believe people openly talked about such horrible things. I felt like a scientist in a lab.

I’m grateful for this experience as I feel it really gave me insight into what are now dogwhistles today.

And back in the day, there was so much crap there about “white genocide” and South Africa. They loved the all-white (but not technically, wink wink it’s about language not race…) town Orania. Such obvious bullshit but the racists just ate it up.

So to now see what was a fringe but open white supremacist talking point be parroted by the president of the US… I don’t know it’s just a bizarre scene for me. The fact that Musk repeats all this and is likely the source feeding Trump tells me he is waaaay more racist than he shows.

Russia just launched one of the largest large scale air attacks of the entire Ukraine war a few hours ago, after yesterday's attack involving 14 ballistic missiles (Iskander-M/KN-23) and 250 Geran/Shahed drones and decoys.

Tonight's attack involved the use of 9 Tu-95M and 3 Tu-160 strategic bombers launching Kh-101 subsonic cruise missiles, Su-57 stealth aircraft launching Kh-69 stealth subsonic cruise missiles, ships in the black sea launching dozens of Kalibr cruise missiles, potentially dozens of Iskander M, Kn-23 and Iskander-1000 ground launched ballistic missiles, along with the usual Geran/Shahed drones and decoys. So a massive attack. No Kinzhal air launched ballistic missiles from MiG-31K aircraft, preliminary reports of long range ballistic missile strikes beyond the range of the usual Iskander M suggest that Iskander-1000 has taken up the role usually fulfilled by the Kinzhal.

The air raid is still continuing, with Tu-22M3 bombers launching Kh-32/22 supersonic cruise missiles.

There has been a large redeployment and repositioning of Russian Air Force and Ministry of Defence transport aircraft, flying away from Moscow during the Russian attack. Ukraine also launched a drone attack on Moscow, so it's likely to do with that.

Your average Twitter Deus vult tradcath will shit themselves to death when they learn about Pope Leo's maternal ancestry:
https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/genealogists-trace-pope-leos-african-ancestry-to-new-orleans-and-haiti/3744882/

"I looked into some of the birth certificates, death certificates, census records," Chicago-based genealogist Tony Burroughs said. “And sure enough, his ancestors were Black—listed as Black at some period.”

Burroughs, who has spent decades researching African American genealogies, said the findings are both fascinating and not uncommon. "I was able to go back to the 1850s, and they were listed as mulattos in 1850, 1860, 1870. Then when you get to 1880, they were listed as white. When you get to 1900, they were listed as Black, and then after that, they were listed as white," he said.

“While the Pope’s mother was born in 1911 up in Chicago, her six older sisters and her parents were all very much from New Orleans,” Honora said. “Them and their ancestors were fairly consistently listed as colored or mulatto or Black in census documents and in vital records.”

Soviet Cars in Cuba: Rolling Relics Still on the Move - Telesur English

Article

On the streets of Cuba, Soviet-era cars continue to play a key role in daily life, decades after the Cold War ended. Models such as the Lada, Moskvich, Volga, Niva, and Zil—mass-imported during the Soviet era—are still a common sight across the island’s cities and towns, becoming true icons of the Cuban urban landscape.

The Lada, in particular, has become one of the most prevalent and functional vehicles, used not only for personal transport but also as taxis, ambulances, and police cars. It is estimated that around 250,000 Ladas are still on the road, a significant number that reflects their durability and adaptability to local conditions.

However, keeping these cars running poses a constant challenge. The shortage of spare parts—exacerbated in part by Western sanctions on Russia—has pushed many Cubans to find creative solutions: from handcrafting replacement parts to adapting engines from other brands such as Toyota. This resourcefulness has extended the lifespan of vehicles that are often more than forty years old.

Beyond their practical use, Soviet cars have also fostered an active automotive culture. In Havana, for example, the Lada Club brings together enthusiasts who share technical knowledge and organize community events.

Despite government efforts to modernize the island’s vehicle fleet, these cars remain essential. Recently, Russia sent 50 Moskvich vehicles to help update Havana’s taxi system, a sign that the automotive connection between the two countries endures.

In Cuba, Soviet cars do more than transport people—they carry a living piece of history and national identity.

Bolivia's courts are set to ban the candidacies of both Evo Morales and Andrónico Rodríguez. This would mean there are no indigenous or leftist candidates in this year's presidential elections - in the country with the largest indigenous population in the Americas.

The MAS is still standing, but its candidate is Eduardo del Castillo - a middle-class white man from the Santa Cruz region who does not come from the unions or indigenous groups that originally created the party. One of his slogans is "The Bolivian people demand order."

Now: Andrónico Rodríguez has arrived to register his candidacy for this year’s presidential elections in Bolivia, running under “The People’s Alliance”. A split from both Luis Arce and Evo Morales. I got crushed trying to film as thousands came to accompany him 😅

Andrónico, a union leader from Evo's home region, and Senate President, backed Evo in the faction fight against Arce and was once seen as his natural successor. But Evo’s camp shut down any talk of Andrónico running. Now, Andrónico is going ahead with his own platform.

Earlier today, the courts announced they will move to ban his candidacy on administrative technicalities. With Evo Morales also likely to be banned, there may be no candidate at all from the indigenous left.

Russian presidential adviser Anton Kobyakov made an interesting statement today, “The Soviet Union continues to exist in a legal sense - something that constitutional law specialists, including those in Western countries such as the United States and France, have long acknowledged. This is because the procedure for the so-called dissolution of the USSR was violated. Since the Congress of People's Deputies (also known as the Congress of Soviets) established the USSR in 1922, it should have been dissolved through a decision by that same Congress. If the legal procedure was not properly followed, then, according to constitutional law experts, the USSR remains legally intact.

From a legal perspective, the Belovezha Accords are entirely questionable. This agreement was later ratified by the Supreme Soviets of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and Belarus - acts that, in fact, exceeded their authority. If the Soviet Union was not legally dissolved, then the Ukrainian crisis, for example, could be viewed as an internal matter rather than an international conflict.”

Peak legalism brain, words on paper are somehow more meaningful than the barrel of a gun.

The very first paragraph of the final report from the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology, a PDF that took 3 years and presumably millions of dollars to create

Americans are already familiar with how the Chinese government conducts economic warfare with crucial technologies such as semiconductors: corner the supply chain, then choke it to weaken the United States. But this is not the last time Beijing will run this play, and it is not even the most dangerous version of it.

Imagine a not-so-distant future where researchers in Shanghai develop a breakthrough drug that can eliminate malignant cells, effectively ending cancer as we know it. But when tensions over Taiwan reach a breaking point, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the strategic apparatus of the Chinese government, hoards the treatment under the guise of national security, cutting off supply to the United States. After years of access, this lifesaving drug is immediately in shortage, requiring doctors to ration it while American biotechnology companies scramble to reconstitute production in the United States. The streets and social media overflow with people demanding that the United States abandon Taiwan. The Administration faces an agonizing choice between geopolitical priorities and public health.

This scenario is fiction. But something like it could soon become reality as biotechnology takes center stage in the unfolding strategic competition between the United States and People’s Republic of China (China).

US bipartisanship: On May 19, Trump’s State Department offered a $10M reward for info on Hezbollah near the triple border. Then Marco Rubio pushed for Itaipu dam power to fuel US AI. Next day, NYT ran a bizarre 'Russian spies in Brazil' story, debunked by the Justice Minister. This comes on the heels of Bill S. 842: No Hezbollah In Our Hemisphere Act, submitted by Senators John Curtis (R) and Jacky Rosen (D) on March 4. If it passes, Trump will have the power to declare countries like Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela as "terrorist sanctuaries.".

After New York Times publishes an article claiming Brazil's Federal Police have uncovered a Russian spy network, Justice Minister Ricardo Lewondowski debunks the story. "There is no concrete evidence that there is a large scale spy network here, from Russia or anywhere else.

"Our authorities in the military, the police and the national intelligence agency (ABIN) monitor this. Everything is operating normally." At a press conference at Interpol's 4th meeting with South American police chiefs, he said there is one, isolated case, which is currently being analyzed by the Supreme Court. "The Brazilian government will act in accordance with the Court's ruling in this case," he said. "Unless there is evidence of criminal activity, this is not a matter for the Federal Police to intervene in."

The NYT is the voice of the Democratic Party. Democrats always work together with the Republicans in Latin American politics.

The French government wants to build a maximum security prison in the middle of the Amazon jungle in French Guiana. The facility, planned for 2028, will house drug traffickers and Islamic radicals. The proposal has sparked local outrage.

The prison will be built in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, a place marked by memories of former penal colonies, such as the notorious Devil's Island. The Macron government's proposal has reignited criticism of the use of Guyana as a penal colony for mainland France. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin has said that the prison is part of the national strategy to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. But for regional leaders and part of the population, the measure is yet another chapter in the colonial legacy, imposed without dialog.

How long before the US is going to use AI to run its economy?

I feel like this is now a very distinct possibility and will certainly have a disastrous outcome. Maybe the empire is really going to collapse under its own weight by chasing the AI crap lol.
