You know who else had to cut a whole bunch of content for a lack of time and still managed to deliver a truly perfect "both sides suck" storyline?

Fallout New Vegas trans-heart. Stop making excuses

[-] CptKrkIsClmbngThMntn@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

This is Bioshock Infinite erasure.

[-] MineDayOff@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Daisy did nothing wrong

The NCR is unironically way better tho

Caesar's Legion are literal slavers while the main criticism of the NCR was "muh taxes"

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 35 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The main criticism of the NCR is that it's a dying overextended Empire that can't take care of its own people and enjoys the occasional genocide. First as tragedy then as Fallout New Vegas

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Also the fact that it's clearly dying means it's just going to suck resources out of Vegas to enrich itself to delay its inevitable collapse

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

Literally, if Chief Hanlon's statements on fresh water sources in the NCR is to be believed.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

They would use money from the strip to fund the construction of the aqueduct they'd use to drain every last drop of the Colorado River to divert it to incredibly destructive brahmin ranches that will inevitably be wiped out by some FEV-derived zoonotic disease right around the time Shady Sands is being nuked by Vault-Tec

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

It already is. Characters mention that most of the energy produced by Hoover dam is sent to the NCR, bypassing the Mojave. That's why Helios One exists as a choice.

[-] Guamer@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If the alternative is that world just playing Mad Max forever, I'm supporting the best chance it has at a halfway decent, stable unified governance/society, warts and all.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

The real alternative is the axed Followers of the Apocalypse questline that would have made an actual independent Vegas that lasted beyond the courier's lifespan possible.

[-] MasterBlaster@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 week ago

to be fair aside from the unavoidable "and some people died during the battle :(" slide, the independent ending that made it to release doesn't seem all that bad either. i just wish the aesthetics of the independent ending were less "anarchy fuck yeah" and more "the conditions were right for a near autonomous bastion city of the wastes"

It's a vidjagame, not theory, easy. lol

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You didn't have to do Disco Elysium fans wrong like this.

[-] Guamer@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

lol

And no hard feelings, I know NCR ain't perfect. I'm just a One World (Ideally Communist) Government type guy, why I supported the Empire in Skyrim as well.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

This is why you install At Your Own Pace which just skips the stupid peace summit in its entirety

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

I've beaten Skyrim like 3 times and I don't think I've ever had to endure the peace summit. Or maybe I was so bored I just repressed the memory.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

I literally didn't even realize that whole empire/nord thing was supposed to be the main quest in skyrim, I ignored it completely and just ran around fighting dragons

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The Civil War questline runs parallel to the main quest, but you need to interact with it in order to kickstart the last part of the main quest.

You can beat the game without finishing it by getting everyone to do a meeting at the Greybeards's place to discuss a cease-fire while you do dragonborn shit, which is a neat quest idea, just not executed very well. If you finish the Civil War quest you skip this entirely.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That one is a Sophie's choice of the Klan vs elf nazi lapdogs. I'd take my chances with the Daedra

[-] Guamer@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I suppose my headcanon is that maybe one day the Empire can regather it's strength enough to beat the Dominion in round 2, especially with the help of various magic Hero-kuns

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

It's also a recreation of the liberal capitalist order that nuked the world

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The NCR effectively treats the Mojave as a colony, extracting energy and food in exchange of tenuous and corrupt control,, and failing, unequal infrastructure. Mojave wastelanders are not citizens of the NCR, and are recurrently controlled and brutalized in order to maintain the imperial core.

Yes man is the only anti imperialist choice in fnv

[-] ColombianLenin@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

Independent Vegas is best Vegas

[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

I just side with the Boomers and Yes Man. Then kill Caesar's Legion and handle NCR case by case.

[-] daniyeg@hexbear.net 45 points 1 week ago

yeah not too surprising for a game where the rebels either do child slavery for opium farms or enslave every woman on sight. far cry stories never made that much sense anyway.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 41 points 1 week ago

The plot of the previous game was literally just "quirked up white boy with a little bit of swag busts it down sexual style.. is he goated with the sauce?" and it kinda ruled tbh

[-] sudo_halt@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 week ago

Far Cry 2 the all time GOAT

take ur fucking malaria pills

[-] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

But there were just some choices that were... weird. Like killing off Vaas halfway through and replacing him with a less fun villain. And then the second half, you get a disguise so the enemies aren't instantly hostile, as opposed to the first half, where you were on a constantly hostile island, enemies everywhere, giving you a reason to take over outposts, literally making the game easier in the second half.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

The first half is better but most of the fun for me was just creeping through the jungle bow and knife hunting the most dangerous game which stays fun throughout.

The only truly memorable story missions were the tripping your face off ones and the one blasting make it bun dem. But mostly I resented the story missions for making me go loud instead of just knifing a dozen pirates/Rhodesians.

[-] invo_rt@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

"The Path of the Warrior, Jason" was a common refrain amongst my friends before we did some stupid shit back when FC3 came out. Similar to YOLO.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago
[-] iByteABit@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

just as bad

start taking over outposts and giving them to him instead

I wonder what that reminds me of horsepoo-theory

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 week ago

The Fr*nch should not be allowed to make videogames. Sorry Expedition 33 people.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

I mean, they already put those inane epilogues where the rebels either start selling drugs or become a repressive theocracy

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

epilogues? Those games end? I thought you just wandered around the map trying to do all the things until you got bored and realized 2 more games in the series came out

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Oh yeah, they have endings and they usually suck

They suck so hard

[-] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

You kinda could side with Pagan Min, if you decided to just have common sense at the beginning of the game and wait for him to return instead of acting like a video game character and escaping. Then he just returns, you go on vacation together, and the game ends.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

That's literally all I know about that game

[-] NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 23 points 1 week ago

WE COULD HAVE HAD MORE CRAB RANGOON‽

Those filthy fucking bastards! It could have been perfect.

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

admitting that is pretty embarassing

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I've never payed Far Cry games because it always gave me this smug sort of aura like it was trying way to hard

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

They're hilariously tilted in regards to politics

The second one is the only one to really examine what it means to be a foreign mercenary fighting in a civil war and even then the extent of it is "War is hell for civilians"

The 3rd game is literally White Savior of the West Indies: The Game

4th one is "Maybe the efféte villain has a good reason for genocide"

5th one is "Generic Multiethnic Doomsday Cult, they're right! We won't examine American racism or Christianity or anything! Please don't threaten us!"

6th one is "What if Cuba invented tobacco that cured cancer, But they like used slaves to do it? Also, communist esthetics but liberal politics, the demands of the revolution are just to have an election and have Batista Jr. step down, no jail time or nothing."

[-] CrispyFern@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

the one with the best politics is obviously blood dragon

[-] kleeon@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

The first one was revolutionary for it's time and the rest are just mediocre open world slop that you've probably played a million times before. Don't even bother
