I'd love it if this was true, but let's be a bit less credulous shall we? No photos, no evidence, no named quotes, no location.

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 1 day ago

Should be taken with a grain of salt till more evidence surfaces, they are claiming they captured a pilot. If that's the case we'll probably see some solid evidence soon. Given that Yemen nearly shot one down, I don't think it's that much of a stretch.

seems like might be a generated image

[-] O_R_I_O_N@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Haha that's fake as hell!

update, there are pics now

[-] Shaleesh@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Definitely fake, likely a generated image.

Compared to a real F-35 the geometry doesn't match up. If the wings and horizontal stabilizers broke off we would at the least see holes where they were supposed to be. The grass in the immediate vicinity would probably not be untouched like we see in the image. Lastly, AI struggles to differentiate between vehicle debris, building rubble, ashes, and clutter, so wreckage in those kinds of images tends to look like a mix of all of the above.

Im sure that Iran has the capability to down a vehicle of such a type, but I'm waiting for third-party confirmation before poppin bottles.

[-] sudo_halt@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 day ago

Iran has not officially released ANYTHING. Iran has confirmed hits on 3 F35 planes and 1 F16 plane, but ANY PICTURE YOU SEE IS FAKE. Russia's Sputnik has also reported one of those F35 hits.

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 day ago

yeah seems like I jumped the gun on that one

[-] Shaleesh@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

I hope I didn't make you feel bad :(

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 day ago

nah, it's my bad for getting too excited

[-] Shaleesh@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

I think we all are to some degree. There's a lot of shit going down and theres probably as much information warfare going on as there is actual warfare right now so I can't really blame you.

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 day ago

For sure, and thanks for the kind words. :)

Yeah, intact fuselage too. That doesn't happen.

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Also, you know, the engine is still very much on.

(I do not want to make op feel bad either, def a nice analysis by Shaleesh too, the rear stabiliser is F22 shaped - but the engine, it's just so funny to me how it's the centrepiece of the pic, an image so unique and stand-outish it just triggers some situational/prop humour for me.)

[-] Hermes@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

These are fake, as mentioned elsewhere

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 day ago

ah, I guess we'll have to wait some more

[-] sudo_halt@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 day ago

This is not a true picture. This is an older MiG.

Are we sure Iran shot them down? Maybe the F-35s just did that.

[-] Rom@hexbear.net 35 points 2 days ago

The F-35s yearn for the mines

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 1 day ago

It is a Boeing after all...

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately not true, it's a Lockheed Martin.

On the bright side, the next generation of fighter is going to be a Boeing bloomer

[-] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 13 points 1 day ago

f-35 were designed to land anywhere.

so we can call it rapid unscheduled landing

or a lithobraking manoeuvre

[-] Staines@hexbear.net 46 points 2 days ago

This is definitely not confirmed in any way yet.

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago
[-] DickFuckarelli@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

Whether or not this is real, the F-35 makes a great reef

[-] Aradino@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

I think that the jet fuel and explosives and such might not be good for marine life

[-] DickFuckarelli@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

Agreed. But I'd rather them be underwater than in the air.

[-] Aradino@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

What did marine life ever do to you

Won't the jet fuel just float?

[-] Owl@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

Jet fuel can't help seal and bream.

Jet fuel can't melt seal breams

[-] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 day ago

its too late at night to be reading things like this.. i just shook the whole bed laughing and woke the dog and my partner up

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago

I think jet fuel evaporates pretty quickly. Not great to drink or breathe in

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

unless an IDF troop is reading this in which case it has healing properties and you should breathe deeply when in the presence of jet fuel fumes

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago

don't breathe jet fuel

:sawgerrera-shining:

[-] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 day ago

or bees.. unless you're a billionaire

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

Not great to drink or breathe in

The fish when they realize that technically they do both:

side-eye-1

[-] Aradino@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Yeah but it floats where the fish live

Not sure if this one is confirmed either but here's a photo:

EDIT: Probably fake

This doesn't look like an f-35 at all to me. There is only one central tail rudder as opposed to two, as well as the side intakes look off. I'm not an expert on planes but this looks more like an f-16 to me.

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Wikipedia says they have F-15s (which have two engines and rudders), F-16s, and F-35s. Unless it's something else entirely, it's an F-16. Good catch!

[-] Cimbazarov@hexbear.net 42 points 2 days ago

Saw on telegram they said this was fake
