Aren't moths butterflies on a night shift

[-] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 12 points 2 days ago

How dare you. Moths are much older, maybe 100 million years. There are 180000 species of moths vs about 16000 of butterflies. Moths are also incredibly efficient at pollinating, perhaps moreso than bees even. In short, moths rule.

Nope, butterflies are moths on day shift from an evolutionary perspective.

I like how this implies that butterfly isn't made up of "butter" and "fly", but of "butt" and "erfly"

[-] prettybunnys@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

which also implies the opposite genetic cross would be a buttmoth

Moths tend to rest wings appart, butterflies with wings folded together.

I wanted to say "motherfly," then realisation struck.
