Begone, foul stain!

I'm the guy but instead of a pyramid scheme I'm just trying to get all of my friends to install Linux and switch to fediverse social platforms

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Also me but instead of a pyramid scheme or Linux, it's socialism.

[-] AldinTheMage@ttrpg.network 2 points 10 months ago

I do that too 😅 I'm getting better at avoiding the scary trigger words and getting them to agree with the principles

Hey, someone I haven't spoken to in years is messaging me...oh

[-] atlien51@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

I thought maybe they remembered they care about-

Oh.

Thinking about that time I posted online that it was my last day of college classes so I could only get dumber from there on out, and someone I hadn’t talked to since high school wrote a reply in agreement and my response to them was “It’s like what Smash Mouth said: ‘Your brain gets smart, but your head gets dumb’”

It's not a pyramid, it's an inverted Delta. And that puts you right at the top.

I've had 3 friends from HS hit me up (I'm in my 40s now) asking if I want to go to their pampered chef or Amway gatherings.

Hell. No.

Have had her experience a couple times. It's always kind of sad.

edit: funny thing, both people who tried to involve me in their moneymaking schemes were heavy duty Christians. Too small a sample size to draw any conclusions of course. One was a typical Amway-style pyramid scheme where I would sell cutlery door to door, recruiting others to do the same so I could get a cut of their commissions, the other was a tiered investment scheme that took me all of 5 minutes online to find out was a well-known scam.

Yeah I don't really feel anger or annoyance just sadness empathy and pity

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

It's part of why I cut my social media entirely, there's nobody I care enough about and can't just talk to or call that would make me want to endure the endless stream of people I barely know or long-lost coworkers and friends hitting me up to buy a ticket to a "conference" or try to get me to sell energy bars or essential oils.

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 10 months ago

I play a game of "how long until they try to sell me shit" when one of them messages me. Its funny because they get better at tip toeing around all of it for weeks then they stop talking to me completely.

Only ever had one of these, but I wasn't popular in school, and the vibe of person I have hung out since then are too anticapitalist for the most part.

Recently looked up an old friend from my school days. He's all over FB singing about his love of meth and online poker.

I decided to not reconnect after all.

[-] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 months ago

That would be a perfect cover story if he's like a super spy, or something.

[-] makyo@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

It's either that or investment/disability insurance

[-] arin@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Trumpism is the pyramid scheme in my friend's case

[-] cepelinas@sopuli.xyz 3 points 10 months ago

He is your friend no more.

[-] arin@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Ah yes ex friend forgot to mention

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 months ago

What is he actually holding?

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 months ago

Good eye, it's actually a cube.

[-] general_kitten@sopuli.xyz 4 points 10 months ago

FTFY

side note, does anyone know some actually decent software for mobile with this functionality? I ended up making that image faster in google slides than finding a software with the super advanced functionality of pasting an image on another. everything i found was A) some photo editor with no such functionality B) some AI shit or most often C)both

[-] axEl7fB5@lemmy.cafe 1 points 10 months ago

imgflip is what i use, just find the source image of the meme and add text to it. its a website btw
