The New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) has called on the federal government to strip Zohran Mamdani of his citizenship and deport him.

On Tuesday evening, Mamdani, a 33-year-old self-described democratic socialist, declared victory over Andrew Cuomo, former governor of the state of New York, in the Democratic primary for the 2025 New York mayoral election.

The outcome, one of the first major Democratic primaries since Donald Trump returned to office, is being considered as a barometer for the party's potential recalibration nationally, at a time when it remains ideologically divided about its future.

It's not just Fox News. Bezo's Washington Post ran an editorial, written by "the editorial board," about how Mamdani would be "bad for New York and bad for the Democratic Party," claiming he would destroy public transit, reduce the number of grocery stores, drive away big businesses, depress low-skill employment, etc., etc., etc. Oh, and of course that this would discredit all the other young candidates across the country. The WaPo's threat earlier this year to make their editorial page aggressively pro-capitalist and anti-public-good was apparently very much in earnest.

It's extra dumb because it's NYC - no Republican was ever gonna be mayor. They're just all being super racist.

Remember when they all claimed they had no problem with LEGAL immigration?

Well yeah, they had a problem with any kind that makes them lose.

This shows how scared they are of him. This is a bellwether moment.

[-] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

Exactly, people were talking about controlled opposition and it looks like it is true.

If they thought he was so left he had no chance they would just laugh or even ignore (which normally they did not pay attention to primaries).

The mask is off! Strip them of their citizenship and deport them to a third world prison? What a fucked up party they have become.

Why do they hate democracy do much?

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago

Because they can't win if they keep it.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

The fact that a party so blatantly unconstitutional (and criminal) can get so much support in this country is not a good sign for the future of this nation. I wouldn't invest any hope in things getting better anytime soon. And I mean even when Trump is gone.

Dark future.

[-] FreakinSteve@lemmy.today 6 points 1 month ago

Until a revolution-violent, if necessary- against their media sphere happens you can expect more decline.

All of this is proof that capitalism is an evil economic model, inevitably geared towards death, slavery, and oppression.

I am becoming increasingly sick of seeing the word 'deport' being used by Republicans who are suggesting revoking citizenship and a banishment. It's exile.

"We are all domestic terrorists"

They already told us who they are, and nothing they've done would indicate otherwise.

As a naturalized US Citizen, this is why I couldn't sleep well on November 5, 2024, and haven't ever really had a good night of sleep since the next morning, when I saw the election results.

Citizenship doesn't exist under a tyranny. There's only people inside the circle and people outside the circle. And the circle constantly gets smaller

Don't Republicans hate New York? You'd think they'd be thrilled with the opportunity for socialism to ruin one of the bluest cities in the US. Maybe they're worried something else will happen.

In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the Communist Control Act into law. In theory, this outlawed the Communist Party of the United States and banned communists from serving in certain roles.

WTF

[It passed because] many opposed communism because of its explicitly declared and historically demonstrable goal to undermine liberal democracy. In the words of Ernest van den Haag, there was "no place in democracy for those who want to abolish [it] even with a peaceful vote".

I’m calling on the federal government to strip the citizenship of every member and associate of the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) because they are a threat to the USA.

ICE needs to step in and quickly deport them before their case can be heard in court.

Do Republicans Know What Communism Is?

Short answer: No.

More precise answer: They don't have a fucking clue.

Most relevant answer: No and they don't really care, but they will still call you a communist and kick you out of the country if you annoy them.

If this happens. Thats it. General strike. I already voted for myself to strike with my union. I’ll just add this to the strike list.

On June 2, New York City Council Member Vickie Paladino, a Republican, wrote: "Let's just talk about how insane it is to elect someone to any major office who hasn't even been a US citizen for ten years—much less a radical leftist who actually hates everything about the country and is here specifically to undermine everything we've ever been about. Deport."

Mamdani hit back at Paladino on X, saying: "Like nearly 40% of all New Yorkers, I wasn't born in this country. I moved here at age 7. It's my home. And I'm proud to be a citizen, which means standing up for our Constitution. Councilmember Paladino might consider reading it."

Great clapback.

The national party better figure out quickly that the next election isn't going to be

"Blue no matter who"

It's going to be

"More green than blue or else fuck you too!"

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

As an outsider looking at American politics, "blue no matter who" is a propaganda to condition Americans citizens to always accept the lesser evil, and to not bother to try to lobby or pressure their own representatives to be actually be better.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

"Blue no matter who" doesn't mean "vote for the second worst person". What it means is anyone who has any shred of decency isn't a republican anymore, and republicans cannot be allowed to win at any cost, or they will very quickly backslide civil rights and start a war in the Middle East.

I think the Dems will back Mamdani, since he's going to win the primary. There are a lot of naysayers about the Democrats who think otherwise, it will be interesting to watch the space in the next few weeks.

Also, if the Republican pull his citizenship then I'm going to fucking riot.

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Dems are already backing Mamdani, he already won the primary and he is himself a part of the party. Even though Bill Clinton endorsed Cuomo, who served as HUD Secretary under Clinton, he had this to say about Mamdani's victory:

"Congratulations @ZohranKMamdani on your victory in yesterday’s primary election and a well-run campaign. I’m wishing you much success in November and beyond as you work to bring New Yorkers together to tackle the city’s challenges and shape a stronger, fairer future"

~Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States of America

Reminds me of this time last year when Trump was on trial for a half dozen things.

Everyone was all like "ooh it would be so undemocratic to try someone while they're campaigning".

Meanwhile republicans can just uncitizen anyone they don't like.

You can't win if no one is playing by the rules.

[-] CircaV@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

Appalling. Only the repugnicans would stoop this low. He’s been American since 2018. If they succeed in this - the US is truly Germany in the early 1930s.

[-] FreakinSteve@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

THE US ALREADY IS GODDAMMIT!!

WHY DOES NOBODY UNDERSTAND THIS??

ARM UP, GODDAMMIT!!!

[-] drhodl@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Republicans start being revolting, very early in their political careers, it seems. Maybe they are born that way.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 4 points 1 month ago

Raised that way.

[-] M137@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

A photo of Trump next to a normal (both in looks and mentally) person never stops being surprising, hilarious and disturbing. We all know he both looks and behaves like an absolute clown, but most photos of him are of his goons and/or other dictators (real or wannabes) who all look ridiculous so you don't get that direct comparison.

[-] buttnugget@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Put every last one of these right wing lunatics in prison.

[-] lmuel@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

This is more or less unrelated but nonetheless very important:

Should we tell him that his makeup was swapped for a bucket of shit? I’m not sure he’s able to smell it but we can certainly see it.

At this point I think GOP is simply a fascist party, which has been hiding behind false patriotism.

They are simply atrociously and with no sense of humanity or ridiculousness. Just pure hatred personified into a shell of human beings.

If I were to be religious I would think that Trump is the anti-Christ and his followers are simply demons.
