The new Grok 4 didn't make it halfway through its first day on the job before hurling racial conspiracy theories at users.

This is the same Grok that Elon Musk promises will be added to Tesla vehicles by "next week at the latest."

You'll remember that Grok 3 was briefly shut down just earlier this week for a different bunch of antisemitic outbursts. This doesn't bode well for the state of AI safety guardrails or Q/A at xAI.

Aren't you guys glad that we dismantled government regulation of businesses long ago? Now we get cars that are racist! Yaaaaaay!

clears throat

blows up a cybertruck

[-] KayLeadfoot@fedia.io 18 points 2 weeks ago

Unfortunately, you've been replaced by AI.

... so, the Cybertruck will blow itself up.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

As a moderator of fuck_ai, I'm against all ai existing. As a human being with a functional brain, I'm against cybertrucks existing.

So I'm torn.

[-] ftmpch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm imagining a montage of the prototypes all destroying themselves in elaborate ways like that bit in Robocop 2.

[-] Philamand@jlai.lu 3 points 2 weeks ago

Lmao, when I was a kid I thought we'd have flying cars in the future, but we got racist cars instead...

[-] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 25 points 2 weeks ago

Our new AI has dubbed itself 'MechaHitler', we should give it a body to control... (or a few thousand bodies)

[-] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 15 points 2 weeks ago

That is the MOST Pro Semetic thing I've heard!

-The ADL and Chuck Schumer!

[-] CaptainBasculin@lemmy.bascul.in 14 points 2 weeks ago

Elon Musk: noo don't call my tesla cars swastikars

Also Elon Musk:

[-] andallthat@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

don't call my tesla cars swastikars...

... that's reductive, they have so much MORE potential!

[-] fluxion@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

One day AI will be so advanced it will recognize that Elon Musk is the only human that matters.

[-] KayLeadfoot@fedia.io 2 points 2 weeks ago

That day is today! The new Grok now queries Elon Musk's twitter feed as a solution to its antisemitic outburst problems.

I'm not kidding, I'm dead serious: https://apnews.com/article/grok-4-elon-musk-xai-colossus-14d575fb490c2b679ed3111a1c83f857

[-] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

Man, that's a lot to unpack..

[-] KayLeadfoot@fedia.io 6 points 2 weeks ago

There's a lot going on in there. None of it good.

[-] nothingcorporate@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Imagine your car refuses to start because the name on your registration sounds "too Jewish."

[-] bampop@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I expect we'll see a spate of Jewish sounding motorists getting trapped in the car with windows disabled and exhaust fumes diverted to the inside of the car (even though it's electric; technology finds a way)

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

If I was a Tesla owner, the only thing I’d want to know is if I could turn Grok off.

[-] Technoguyfication@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago

As a Tesla owner (from several years ago, before Elon got this bad), I’m not installing any updates until I can confirm they don’t come with MechaHitler.

[-] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago
[-] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yes you have to initiate the installation manually, and if it doesn't have wifi access (not cellular) it doesn't download the updates either.

[-] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Genuine question, what would it take for you to trade in your Tesla for another car?

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago

I mean, presumably the car not working anymore? I'm not sure what you're trying to ask them.

[-] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm asking if there is anything at all that Musk or the Tesla company could do, any hard line that could be crossed, which would make them trade in the car for something else.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io -2 points 2 weeks ago

Why would they ever do that? Buying a new Tesla is one thing, but using one they've already paid for doesn't benefit Musk. Why would there be a threshold for them to get rid of their perfectly fine car?

[-] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Personally, I'd have done it out of shame. And to send a message. I can't imagine everyone selling their Tesla cars would look good to investors.

If their answer is "there is no threshold", that's an answer, but I was asking them. If you don't have a Tesla, my question was not directed at you.

[-] jim3692@discuss.online 1 points 2 weeks ago

my question was not directed at you

Sorry for that, but you could say "it's NoneOfUrBusiness" (their username)

[-] SomeoneSomewhere@lemmy.nz 9 points 2 weeks ago

I promise it will barely be harder than turning Copilot off...

[-] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 6 points 2 weeks ago

I’m just going to grab some popcorn 🍿

[-] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Adding fuel to burning Teslas. What a brilliant idea.

[-] ScienceGuy722@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

And this is why I will never buy a Tesla.

[-] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Aw, c'mon. There are a lot more reasons not to buy a Tesla than just this.

[-] oliver@lemmy.pifferi.io 4 points 2 weeks ago

The same „next week“ that already delivered FSD and all the other fictional stuff by Elmo? Anyway, playing Nazi-tunes instead of farts and having a right-hand-twist at navigating is surely this special USP still missing…

[-] KayLeadfoot@fedia.io 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure this is the USP that will restore sales in Canada!

[-] realitista@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Cool, now your Swasticar can have a real MechaHitler to guide you to your next hate rally.

[-] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Y'all thought we were joking when we called them Nazi-Mobiles. We very much weren't.

[-] TheFogan@programming.dev 2 points 2 weeks ago

So... ok what the hell is wrong with the guy? I mean surely he knows grok 4 was not a success after it was pulled offline. What's next, is he going to push over the "unscheduled rapid unassembly" from failed spacex rockets?

[-] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

He wants to leave the planet anyway, so why not mess it up terribly before...

[-] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Damn, I can't short Tesla anymore than I already have.

[-] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

He's propped up by foreign governments.

[-] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

You know that over-the-air update facility you all loved?

Errr .. there's a downside.

[-] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I want my Tesla to say some really racist, sexist, homophobic, and antisemitic things just before it plows into a group of school children crossing the street.

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Don't forget it will turn off FSD a millisecond before you splatter the kids as to prevent Tesla from being at fault.

[-] Apocalypteroid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago
[-] JustARaccoon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Full (?) Self Driving I'm guessing

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah isn't that what they call it? I can't keep track of all the names Elon comes up with to mean this car can drive itself even though it can't.

[-] NotKyloRen@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

Your Cybertruck now identifies as a WWII era Porsche tank.

[-] Donkeytown@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

Another masterful excuse to keep my relationship status with Tesla at ‘it’s complicated.

[-] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 0 points 2 weeks ago

What guardrails? Grok was intentionally designed without any. Don’t believe me? Go on the website and ask if to generate something awful - it’ll happily comply. Really disgusting way to handle AI.

[-] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

The most fucked up thing is that Grok does seem to have guardrails — except they're geared towards preventing it from being "too woke"

[-] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 0 points 2 weeks ago

Yea, that’s actually a more accurate way to phrase it. Ask it to generate something with Hitler and it’ll happily oblige, ask it to generate something supporting trans rights and it’ll block you.

[-] KayLeadfoot@fedia.io 1 points 2 weeks ago

I got banned from Twitter for saying the word "cisgendered."

So they DO know how to build limitations into the software! They've just done it in a fucked up, dystopian way :)

Edit: LOL I asked Grok... Cisgendered is filtered as a supposed slur, while both the R word for the mentally disabled and the hard R word for the pallor-impaired, neither of those words are filtered as slurs.
