Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

[-] axEl7fB5@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 weeks ago

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich are no longer rich.

[-] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

That's a fantasy. What we could do is stop voting the party that does things like remove healthcare coverage from 17 million people so it can give more tax cuts to billionaires.

But we insist on saying both sides are the "same" instead.

[-] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

Taxation becoming automated and controlled by our place of employment is exactly why it is paramount that workers own our places of employment even more so than in the past.

If we own our places of employment, we can collectively refuse to continue funding this fascist regime and utilize those funds for our own local, grass-roots initiatives.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Circulate this on right-wing sites and social media, not Lemmy.

We need more conservatives and liberals realizing that they're in a class war, not a race war.

[-] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Lemmy is still full of conservatives and liberals. Just not as inundated as other places. This meme still serves its purpose being posted here.

Have fun just leave the McDonald's breakfast crew alone

[-] gift_of_gab@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

The 'incident' at the corner store is uh, not great either, eh?

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I used to kind of be against tax evasion, after passage of the big bunch of bullshit bill I'm philosophically on the side of small time federal tax evaders. Nobody should be funding this government and its massive hand jibber program for the rich. The federal tax code has completely become a way to redistribute money upwards.

[-] Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Which is why usually there was laws to prevent them from doing whatever they wanted but that's out the window.

[-] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Law only exists to control those lower in the hierarchy than the ones who hold ruling authority over its enforcement and interpretation.

Fear not, there's a lot of gun enthusiasts, ready to fight against tiranny!

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

There's a lot of gun enthusiasts, ready to fight for tyranny! - FTFY

[-] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

No they seem to like tyranny.

[-] BaroqueInMind@piefed.social 0 points 2 weeks ago

The sad truth is that the Left could also potentially have a number of gun enthusiasts because nothing is stopping any of them from doing that, but the Democratic party has turned most leftists into pacifists who are afraid of guns and feel that impotent sign waving and finger waggling is enough.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

There are a lot of liberal and leftist gun owners, they just don't wear them as identity or gender affirming care.

"How do you know if your conservative neighbor bought a new gun?" "Don't worry he'll tell you."

But more broadly, yes we've let the right RUIN the very principles that we could have held onto and come out on top. If we kept guns and the American flag we wouldn't be in a fascist state right now. I'm not even kidding. We gave them nationalism AND the tools to keep it.

Fucking soft-ass whinging lefties are still circling around issues of principle when we're literally losing the entire country. "Oh no, that guy said the R word once! We should make 48-minute essay pieces on youtube calling out their bad behavior while flying the flags of our own particular ethnicity or identity as we retreat to Discord to get emotional comfort from our niche group of parasocial clingers who will never actually challenge us!"

I am fully aware this is going to piss off some Lemmy users who read it and they will obtusely think that I'm anti-pride or saying that we should use slurs. I'm not saying that (but thank you for proving my point). I'm saying we fixated on the wrong problems instead of attacking the right with actual populist ideas that would have also had a measure of help with issues of equality and human rights. We allowed the right to make it a "bad guys versus good guys" fight when we could have made it a "They're hurting us all, we all deserve better" fight. We have misjudged with great naivety just how uninvolved and uncaring the average American is about issues outside of their immediate lives, We have tripped up BADLY because our idealism had no wiles or strategy. I guess it was all worthwhile if you can be the most ideologically pure leftist in the camps.

Not a great example to compare yourself to. He was actually the lying, asshole, bad guy the whole time.

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

He was a villain in that he was a threat to his ex-wife and child, but his position on society up until that’s revealed is spot on.

You telling me the street fell apart in two days?

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Never lived in South Carolina? It shows. Road functions. Barely. Then the afternoon rainstorm happens. Then the road fails. Giant pothole, sinkhole, 36 inch tree fell, it's two feet under water, road no longer exists because it was washed out, bridge suddenly missing. Happens all the time.

I used to think Hampton Roads / Tidewater was bad with its water depth markers on the edge of roads to let you know if you were about to drive your tail pipe or be completely submerged. But then I moved to Lesser Carolina. Whole new level of difficulty.

Went to a convention for the weekend. Getting back took four times as long as we had to consult every available live resource to see what roads were open and still existed. Because hurricanes are a thing that happens here.

So, in summary, fuck yes. Roads fall apart in two days.

I don't even live in the US and I'm still forced to pay them

[-] Naich@lemmings.world -2 points 2 weeks ago

Don't hate the game, hate the player.

[-] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

What? No ill hate this game thanks

[-] Naich@lemmings.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

So you don't want taxes to pay for roads and so on?

[-] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Nice try jackass

[-] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

That isn't the game being discussed.

[-] Naich@lemmings.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm what way is it not? We pay tax money to the government. That's the game. A good government spends it on things that benefit their citizens. They are the players. These arseholes are cheating and spending it on themselves and their cronies, and ways to terrorise their enemies. The game is the same but the people playing it aren't.

But thanks to everyone for all your insults and downvotes. It's just like being on Reddit.

[-] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

We are upset because of exactly what you are talking about about: the leader PLAYING A DIFFERENT GAME THAN WHAT WAS AGREED TO. The game you described is what should be played, but instead they play "how many poors can we get to eat each other today?"

People are being rude because you sound like every self confident prick in right wing circles who smuggly says "yet you live in society?" any time someone suggests improving anything.

[-] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

If the player makes rules of the game, hate both.

[-] logicbomb@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Why can't I hate both?
