Honest question: Is there a good comprehensive easy to follow source for reading/listening/watching up on the theory?

At some point some user linked to a long reading list, where I stopped frustrated after 2 hours of reading and still being non the wiser. In all that time there must be some resource, that is more engaging and especially talking about modern life, not the life in the times of Marx (yeah, I know that the fundamental principles are the same). I'm also ok with multiple hour youtube videos, as long as there are skillfully made and engaging.

It depends on what aspect of theory you're interested in.

For introductory material, I can highly recommend Blackshirts and Reds by Parenti. It's well written, and gives a good overview of socialism in a modern context.

I thought these books discussing socialism in the context of China were pretty good as well

For an intro on the modern economic theory aspect, Geopolitical Economy Hour with Radhika Desai and Michael Hudson is pretty good

Gotta say, it’s weak fucking argument because capitalism isn’t working out for the world either and it doesn’t even work in theory. The only reason it seemed to work for a while was that it was so heavily regulated that it wasn’t really capitalism.

Regulated capitalism is still capitalism, and the reasons why those stronger regulations have eroded is because the Soviet Union no longer exists in close proximity to Europe as an alternative for the west.

Yup even Adam Smith himself did said regulation is needed for capitalism.

The only places it seemed to work were those that were already established as the centers of capital and were thus benefiting from the expanding frontier of exploitation. Capitalism has run out of land and run out of people outside the imperial core to further exploit and so turns inwards to devour its once-beneficiaries. Internationally and especially in the global south it has served no purpose, ever, except to brutally oppress and exploit.
