"Just dig the hole, hole digger"

All data carriers, like ISPs, payment processors, email services, etc. should have NO control, nor even oversight or input, over the content of their transmission or the purposes thereof.

Imagine if all roads were privately own and they wanted to know every detail about those traveling on their roadways. Origin and destination, every detail about you, about your vehicle, what you have in your car, etc. And imagine they could decide that certain cars were allowed on their roads, you weren't allowed to use their roads to get to certain destinations, they get lobbied by bigots to not allow gays to drive on their roads, or people that have porn in their vehicle. There's no public alternative, and sometimes no private alternative, and even private alternatives do the exact same thing... if we wouldn't allow that sort of surveillance, interference, and autocratic control with or means of movement, why should we allow it with our means of trade.

Jesus girl would side with the payment processor.

Still itch.io deindexed all nsfw games

Edit: Okay so they now reindexed them.

Today, we are re-indexing free adult NSFW content. We are still in ongoing discussions with payment processors and will be re-introducing paid content slowly to ensure we can confidently support the widest range of creators in the long term.

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

Would you rather they had shut down because nobody is able to pay them anymore? They complied with the demands for the time being because they have a business to run - and then they immediately started looking for a solution.

[-] MyDarkestTimeline01@ani.social 2 points 1 month ago

I don't believe people fault itch.io or steam for what they did. You can be upset with an action and still understand why it was done. It's the same mental allowance you would give to someone if they agreed to cover your shift but the morning of their kid got sick and you had to come in anyway. Sure, you're upset but you also understand that someone would need to take care of their kid.

So we can be upset that NSFW games were delisted. But the other options would be them only getting paid through physically bought Steam and Itich.io gift cards.

[-] bappity@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

and stripe apparently plans to allow NSFW content in future, which is super promising.

I hope itch.io finds an alternative in the meantime though

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

allow

Shouldn't be their decision in the first place. Process the fucking payments, payment processors.

[-] rdri@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

They just missed very old news about how games that depict illegal activities do not really cause people to do illegal activities. Therefore they can't be illegal themselves.

[-] prex@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago

Plus, where do you draw the line?
Social media where users discuss illegal activities? Movies that depict illegal activities?
There are a lot of illegal activities in the bible.

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I committed genocide in age of empires 2 yesterday, but lewd games is where I draw the line!

[-] skisnow@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

I want Visa and MC to show us a time they were prosecuted by the government for processing a payment they shouldn't have.

[-] zxqwas@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Maybe it is time for an anti-trust investigation.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

in this administration?

good luck....

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 month ago

Might dust off Taft-Hartley to bust some unions though

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago

Just use whichever payment processor is the lesser evil to push them towards getting better.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Because that's working out super great with politics!

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago
[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 0 points 1 month ago

I use my local bank for that.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Banks and payment processors are not the same thing though.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

And yet I can pay directly from my bank account in the steam store.

[-] zxqwas@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Buying from steam I currently have the option of Mastercard or visa. They don't accept the other ways I have, and it's difficult for me to get the ones they accept.

As I understand it they are both doing it in coordination.

[-] Forester@pawb.social -1 points 1 month ago

You can buy steam store credit directly

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 1 month ago

Given the show this meme is taken from, I can't tell if the quote itself is unaltered or not. 🤣

[-] ieatmeat@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Drive the bus, bus driver

[-] tomkatt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Fill the hole, hole filler.

[-] bryndos@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago

Damn, am I really going to have to start going to bank regularly, getting cash from the cashier, and boycotting card-only places.

Meh, I guess I've nowt better to with my time.

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

Let's be clear though

The payment processors did the blocking but the requests came from some religious group that wants the entire world to be as miserable as they are.

Fuck all religions and fuck them for always wanting their claws in everything to try and control everything and everyone

[-] MyDarkestTimeline01@ani.social 1 points 1 month ago

Not to mention their little gaslighting memos they sent out trying to say it wasn't them that told them they wouldn't process those payments.

[-] Electricd@lemmybefree.net 0 points 1 month ago

They’re payment networks, not payment processors

Isn’t this misinformation?

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

So... that means they do ... what? Network the payments?

[-] Electricd@lemmybefree.net -1 points 1 month ago

They provide the digital infrastructure to have payments and money flows

Payment processors are other companies which use payment networks to process said transactions. Then often have their own rules which are more strict than payment networks

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

And the difference that makes for me is what?

[-] Electricd@lemmybefree.net -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That it isn’t Mastercard and Visa's fault but the payment processors'

Making this meme disinformation

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

I don't know, every news story I read on this said "Mastercard and Visa". I don't see how whether they are technically considered "processors" or "networks" matters to me or the issue.
