the Cork Transport Workers' Union took possession of the Harbour Board's offices and assumed complete control of the local port, forming a workers' soviet until negotiations could be resolved.

The Cork Harbour Strike was a labor dispute that lasted from September 2nd to September 7th, 1921. It was the result of the refusal of the Cork Harbor Board to increase the wages of its workers to a minimum of 70s a week.

On September 6th, 1921, the Cork Transport Workers' Union took possession of the Harbour Board's offices and assumed complete control of the port.

According to the New York Times, "when the strikers took possession of the Harbour Board offices, they hoisted a red flag as a token of Soviet control and the strikers' leaders announced their intention of collecting dues from shipping agents and using them to pay members of the union."

The rebellion was short-lived, however, as negotiations between the Harbour Board and the strikers were reopened soon after, which came to a successful resolution. The revolt was not well-taken in the press.

The Irish Times wrote "To-day Irish Labour is permeated with a spirit of revolt against all the principles and conventions of ordered society. The country's lawless state in recent months is partly responsible for this sinister development, and the wild teachings of the Russian Revolution have fallen on willing ears."

Regardless of your thoughts on Mao and Deng, you gotta give the People's Republic some credit for Simplified Chinese and its time saving contribution to many speedruns. 07

Me and my friend just recorded our most disjointed and off-topic podcast yet, to the point where it turned into us going on a drunken nightwalk and encountering strange wailing and a lone white dog, and talking about the relative warmth of streetlamp colors and the vibes of an undeniably dying empire. Anything but the intended subject. It's time to accept that I'm way more interested in discussing the vibrasphere than movies. But no matter how bad it is, I'm still willing to pay the ten bucks a month for hosting because the badness is kind of the point, I'm willing to keep putting out this objectively meh podcast as a monument to friendship and gettin silly with jtbridget-vibe

Theres no magic (ignore the Japanese characters) because Overwatch is a Christian game and humans can only use magic by making deals with the devil.

The phone interview went really well! They said they'll get back to me tomorrow on whether or not I got the job, and I feel pretty confident that I'll get it

If I use beans to make more beans everyone on this website goes "based" but if I use money to make more money that's called "finance capital" and it makes me a fascist.

Maybe we gotta rethink all this stuff.

Intuit has added an "AI-powered" bank feed page to Quickbooks Online. This will probably not affect many here but when I saw it at work yesterday I got extremely angry and I need to vent. This fake AI shit is exactly what I don't want touching my careful bank feed matching process.

I thought I could avoid it. The bike shop told me not to do it, but I ended up rebuilding the freewheel (out of necessity).

lea-breakdown anxiety days. My car's wheel almost fell off about a month ago so I missed 3 weeks of work (I used PTO for some of it) plus ~1000 bucks to fix it. My meager 'single adult living with multiple roommates' savings got cut plumb in half.

I wouldn't feel so worried about it if it weren't for stonks-down and the fact that it's been dicey getting full hours already.

Anyway fun story: The car got fixed at the beginning of week 2 of me being off. But on friday when they write the schedule for next week harold-manic I got a text asking me if I was ready to come back. I noticed and replied a couple hours later only to get back "Oh well you didn't reply back! I wrote the schedule and you're not on it!" point-and-laugh-1point-and-laugh-2

Municipal elections are coming up and Im sticking to my simple 2 point platform

  1. Fire all incumbents, the city aucks because of them so fire em all
  2. No lawyers no businessmen, anyone you vote in cant be a business owner or lawyer, they have to have worked a job

There'd be point 0 for choose the socialist I guess but we dont have em here.

Bike rode great with the re-built free wheel. Set a (admittedly modest) distance record of 12 miles today. Haven't done that since I was a skinny energetic teenager with no drivers license.

The rain is coming down in buckets. It was so noisy at first I was certain it was hail. My landlady still hasn't fixed the rain leak. And it's been so long. I lost track. It's been about a month? I guess I'm lucky in that it only leaked once and it was not so much. Two buckets filled up about a centimeter*. And it hasn't leaked again. At first I was shocked that it's not leaking now. How can that be?

I looked outside again and I noticed there must be no wind because the rain is coming straight down. The leak is coming though the outside wall and I have to assume wind is directly involved. The day of the leak - it was insanely windy.

* I'm American but - man - the US system of weights and measures is total nonsense. And one day Trump could put out an executive order saying he declares "NEVER METRIC" is a Constitutional Amendment. And GOP SCOTUS soon says... You know what? He's right. We realized that a Republican president has the power to change the Constitution by executive fiat. It is so ordered. That you for your attention to this matter!

:::spoiler had an hour long conversation with my ex over the phone. She spilled everything out to me, we touched on things from a long time ago, from a little bit later, etc. Her fears, as i figured, and so on. She is set. I need to change, which is understandable, but the timelines were hard to promise. She wants me to be someone she can still look up to. I want to be someone she still looks up to. I think I am, I just had a bad year. There's still so much love in her voice. I had my chance to be thankful for everything. I told her everything i missed about her. She was careful not to make me think there's a chance to get back together.

I told her the thought of her dating again hurt, she told me I shouldn't worry about it. There is literally no one around here, except people i dont really want to see. People came out to show support, but it wasn't very deep and meaningful, which turns out was the same for her.

I didn't tell her what i was doing with my day. I'm going to the Mamdani Town Hall today. I've already gotten the ball rolling with my change, and it'll start by being where people are.
