That explains why I get antsy when I havent been online for a while. I cant argue with people endlessly in real life. Nobody likes that guy.

[-] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

This is most of why I'm on lemmy, got banned from reddit for the same lol

[-] sirico@feddit.uk 1 points 1 hour ago

[-] christian@lemmy.ml 3 points 15 hours ago

Often when I upset strangers online I feel bad and log out for a few months.

[-] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 14 hours ago

That is one reason why i love arguing

[-] MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 hours ago

Dude, for sure you do NOT love arguing. I don't even think you like it. Just quietly accept that you're wrong.

[-] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 hours ago

I do!! I also just like taking with people about things!

[-] pohart@programming.dev 2 points 21 hours ago

Why would you post this? you don't even really have adhd

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 68 points 1 day ago

Pffff. This person is clearly incorrect about many aspects of this ๐Ÿ™„

[-] Turret3857@infosec.pub 34 points 1 day ago

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 day ago

Your opinion is bad, and you should feel bad!

[-] thadah@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 day ago

Come on, no need to fight, everyone knows you're both wrong!

[-] Zozano@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

Actually, I'm convinced they're both right.

[-] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago

Goddamn it.

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

why would arguing online of all things give dopamine at all? how does that even work?

[-] MTK@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Low risk high tension social interaction with an ego pushing you to show off = easy dopamine

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago

If you don't get it, I'm genuinely envious. Anger and using wit cruelly can be addictive

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

i'm the envious one. getting easy dopamine from arguing online sounds great.

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago

Not all dopamine is created equal. Staring at your phone, bickering, empty calories, overeating, drinking, trolling on the internet, porn - all garbage dopamine sources, can feel good very briefly and will lead quickly to downward spirals.

You want to be seeking positive sources of dopamine that relate to an overarching life mission. ADHD is a life of extremes, but I believe you can learn to choose extreme positives.

[-] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 21 hours ago

Laughing at sad attempts at cruelty is so much more satisfying.

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 1 points 14 hours ago

Biting wit used to not be so rare, it's true. If you want any you'll have to come back later, I'm taking the high road just now.

[-] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 hours ago

Nah. I wasn't even trying to be witty there, just honest. The high-road seems pretty treacherous from my prefered vantage points.

[-] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 21 hours ago

Idk? Why does mod involvement taste like a spicy desert? Sadly I don't write the rules. I'm just in here looking for easter eggs.

[-] themaninblack@lemmy.world -2 points 21 hours ago

I wonder if ADHDers are more likely to be Fox News viewers for this reason

[-] phoenixarise@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

fuck. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

[-] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 32 points 1 day ago

Well this is bullshit I have ADHD where the heck is all the dopamine?

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 21 points 1 day ago

It's a slow trickle. It's like the research that was done into gambling addicts. The majority of dopamine doesn't come from winning. The majority of it comes from the anticipation. Or in our case. Writing out a long comment that no one else will read.

[-] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Is THAT why I write a long response and then just delete instead of sending my reply?

[-] littlewonder@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

That's just anxiety coming to the party.

[-] cazssiew@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that means you're unlikely to become addicted. You've course-corrected mid-post and now you're anticipating that the argument will be futile. A dopamine fiend would forge ahead hoping for some great win.

[-] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

It doesn't mean you feel euphoric. It's more like a reinforcement. -an addiction.

[-] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago

I know I was being flippant. What I mean is, the few (several...) times I've gotten into internet arguments I am always drained and unhappy and profoundly do not want to do it anymore, even if I am arguing over sincerely held beliefs. I guess I can see why trolling can be addictive, eliciting engagement is a kind of power over people, and power is addictive. And arguing over things I don't care about probably takes a lot less emotional investment than things I do care about... I feel like I'm talking myself into being an internet troll. Still though, seems like a miserable way to get your rocks off :/

I get a bigger kick by being helpful and sharing relevant content.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

I've just been blasting off whatever I'm thinking in order to get Lemmy's numbers up.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 23 hours ago

Oh man me too. Especially that first year.
